Angels are messengers from God. They protect us, guide us, or carry out other heavenly tasks.
Therefore, angel dreams symbolize a greater force that is watching over us, directing us, sheltering us, or trying to show us something important, which is hidden. The important part about angel dreams, is in translating the message within, based on what is currently happening in our spiritual and physical life.
The message can be a shared joy of something divine that has happened, a blessing of good things to come, or a warning of something we should prepare for.
Interpreting Our Dream About Angels
To interpret our dream, we want to pay special attention to the angels.
- What were the angels wearing? What is the color and texture of their wings?
- What were the angels carrying?
- Is there only a single angel or multiple angels?
- Are our dream angels male or female?
- What were the actions or expressions of the angels?
What were the angels wearing
The color and material of the angel’s clothes and wings, are part of the message that they convey.
- White clothes and wings indicate purity, peace, blessings, and rejuvenation. We may be at peace with ourselves and our life. Alternatively, the white angels may be telling us that to achieve inner peace, we need to seek greater spiritual support, need to be cleansed, and need to focus on the purity of our actions.
- Colorful clothes and wings suggest playfulness and joy. We may be looking forward to something happy and hopeful in our future, which could be a new relationship, new job, promotion, inheritance, or some other good fortune.
- Black clothes and wings signal a warning of some kind. Our physical or spiritual well-being could be in danger, we could be burdened by sin or guilt, and we may need to take some action to heal ourselves.
What were the angels holding
The items held by the angels or carried on their person, will also have great significance. We want to examine each object carefully, explore what each of them symbolizes, as well as what they each mean to us.
- Objects of knowledge such as a book or scroll, indicates greater clarity for the future, and confidence in our actions.
- Objects of war such as a sword or staff, signals that we may be experiencing some inner turmoil in our life or some disturbance in our soul. We may need to do battle to regain our spiritual equilibrium.
- Objects of love and peace such as an olive brand or a dove implies hope, care, devotion, and self-sacrifice. We may have a difficult journey ahead of us, but we have faith in a brighter future.
- Food and drink suggests that we are in need of spiritual nourishment. We may be feeling depleted and tired as a result of our daily struggles. The angel may be telling us that we need to take some time for ourselves, and refocus on our inner self and spiritual well-being.
Number of angels
- A single angel indicates a purity of purpose and action. We need to cast off distractions, and focus on the thing that is most important to us.
- Three angels signals harmony, completeness, and the divine. Indeed, the triad or trinity is a powerful symbol with deep roots in culture and history. In Greek mythology there are three Fates, the triad also plays a central role in Celtic religion, and of course, there is the Holy Trinity. Therefore, a message carried by three angels is very potent, and may involve all of our body, mind and spirit.
- Multiple angels suggest good fortune, divine support, or spiritual fortitude. Angels guard and guide us. Therefore, having multiple angels watching over us, is a sign of great protection, and also an indication of a promising future.
If we are one of the angels in our dream, then likely, we have done something good and pure, we are planning to embark on a journey of spirituality, or planning to do God’s work.
Male or female angels
- Femininity is associated with the Venus symbol, which captures love, beauty, prosperity, and fertility.
- Masculinity is associated with the Mars symbol, which captures war, savagery, guardianship, and virility.
The masculinity or femininity of the angels in our dreams, also constitutes part of the message that they carry.
Actions, expressions, and environment
Finally, actions and expressions are also important. What did the faces of the angels convey, and how did we feel in their presence?
- A calm expression indicates that we are looking for some peace and quiet. Our life may be hectic at the moment, and we may need some protection from our daily noise and activity. We may be seeking sanctuary, some time for reflection, or spiritual comfort.
- A happy expression signals that we are feeling confident about our present and future. It may also signify a recent positive achievement, or the expectation of some imminent good news.
- A sad expression suggests future challenges and possibly heartache. However, we have a guardian angel watching over us, so we will ultimately prevail.
- An angry expression implies some mistake, wrong-doing, or sin. We need to admit our mistake, make amends, and try to do better in the future.
Similarly, the actions of our dream angels also carry meaning. An angel that is brandishing a sword in warning, will have a different message than one who is handing us his sword, or one who is standing still, with his sword pointed to the ground.
If we are being handed something, then we may need to perform an important task, or go on a quest for our spiritual well being. The nature of the task or quest will rely on the object handed to us. On the other hand, an angel standing with his sword pointed down, may be guarding us from something. Perhaps we need to be vigilant, check our spiritual defenses, and watch out for sinful temptations that may lead us astray.
Actions may also indicate immediacy of the message, in particular, whether we need to attend to it very soon, sometime in the near future, or NOW!
The environment surrounding our angel is also important. An angel standing in the middle of a storm, signifies spiritual turbulence, whereas one who is standing in a calm pool of water, signifies peace and relaxation.
Are Dream Angels Real?
When we dream of angels, there is always the question of whether the angels are real and sent by God, or whether they are a manifestation of our subconscious mind.
Studies show that a large percentage of Americans believe in angels.
- A poll in 2008 by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion, shows that 55% of 1700 respondents, believe that they were protected from harm by a guardian angel.
- A 2007 Pew poll revealed that a whopping 68% of respondents believe that angels or demons are active in our world. Up to 20% describe encounters with either a heavenly or demonic being.
However, some argue that angel dreams and visitations are the result of our subconscious mind only. They further propose that visitations that occur during the day could be the result of lucid dreaming. It could also be the result of a hallucination or trance.
Are angels real?
As with all things spiritual, that is difficult to prove or fully disprove. The belief in angels, I think, is a very personal thing.
However, if through belief we gain hope, solace, and spiritual strength, then isn’t that the very purpose of an angelic guide and protector? And if so, then perhaps angels exist within us, if we but dare to see.
I had a very vivid real dream that was approx 11 years ago now. It was the strangest yet safe dream I had ever had. In my dream it was a beautiful sunny day in the afternoon. I was outside with my son who was two years old at the time we were out on the patio with a table and chairs and a lawn chair and he was laying in the lawn chair like he was stretched out in the lawn chair. I was close by him. All of a sudden out of nowhere I see a swarm of something. They were black and now I believe then to have been starlings. They were swarming in making beautiful ominous movements and there was hundreds maybe thousands and I was scared. They were getting closer and closer. I ran to my child and through my body over him to protect him. But when I turn my head to look to see if they were upon us they had formed a black angel in the sky it was huge right in front of me in the sky. It seems so large and so close I remember having to lean back in the chair and lift my head all the way up to get the full view. The angel was wearing a crown and in this crown was the most gorgeous blue huge oval stone. All of a sudden I was scared anymore and I knew that it meant me no harm. I felt at peace and then I woke up. Do you have any ideas what this one means?

I have had many dreams in my life time but last night I dreamt of horrible people surrounding me and when I looked to the sky I seen Angels of light and dark colors fighting demons that were balls of fire many of both were falling and felt stress and curouis of why I was seeing this in my dream I get scared in dreams but never full of fear like this before they all knew I was there and there battle was enormous in the sky I can’t figure out why I would see this I have been have many nightmares recently that I can feel love touch and much pain in my whole life I have had very real dreams of many things but this one was not the worst but it carries a heavy weight on my mind for some reason I just wish I knew why.

My friend had a dream, I was in the dream with her and then an angel/guide type figure appeared in between us. In the dream my friend asked the angel who she was and the response indicated she was with me. She had no wings, she had short dark hair, she was wearing a white top with a flowing black skirt. She then walked ahead of us and my friend tried to grab hold of her by her skirt train to stop her from leaving…. But she slipped away. I just woke up from a dream In the dream I was somewhat look like a park with my dad then it starter to get dark all of a sudden and there are strong gush of wind. We are able to get home though and locked the gate. After complete darkness, rays of light appear above the sky and one by one, 12 glowing flying people..I assume Angels, fly down gently. I can’t see their faces or if they’re a man or a woman because all of them are glowing in bluish yellow. I suddenly got levitated from the floor and one of them started talking to me. Later on, I’m kneeling down infront and two are holding my hand. From another point of view or vision, writings started to appear from my back and I can hear them talking about doing it. I had a dream of what I think were 2 angels. Both were hefty, brown or dark in complexion, had blue eyes, looked older with beards, and covered in clouds. Ironic as this may sound, I had a dream Saturday night that I was on a bus and looked up in the sky and seen cloud angels. The angels were moving the clouds away from the sun, then they just start circling in the sky. After that, they started coming towards the bus and I kneeled down on my knees and began to pray and I had a prayer shawl over my head as I was speaking in tongues.

I dreamt I was in a house that had french doors – there were a couple other people in the house but I cannot recall who they were, there was something going on outside we all looked out the windows of the french doors to see the earth, soil, rocks etc swirling up in reverse like tornados returning to the sky or the heavens.
For miles all I could see were crags of rock and on each crag stood an angel, the angel was a blur of white and blue and a glow of yellow but I knew they were angels. My first thought was to grab my son and bunker down in a room and wait for god to collect us.
(I have had many angel dreams, including of god and jesus and the devil, end times dreams, sink holes and much more).
another dream I had was of being guided by figures (angel?) wearing a cloak and I could not see their faces, they guided me up through the ceiling of my bedroom high into the sky and through the clouds – i could see the houses from above as they got smaller and smaller until I was standing on clouds. The figure lead me up to a giant golden scale then left. On each side of the scale was another figure wearing cloaks and I could not see their faces. On the other side of the scale were trees, flowers, grass and all things natural.. and then I woke up. I knew I had to be weighed on something and I figured my faith needed to be weighed.
also, I have dreamed of angels with white wings taking people up moon beams into the nightsky over the ocean.
And of a giant ‘star’ that came through a window of a house I was at listening to an old style record player, the party stopped, the ‘star’ spoke in a deep voice. I believe it was either an angel or perhaps even god speaking but I cannot remember what was said. Then the star left as quickly as it came and I went outside looked up into the night sky saw an upside down cross formed with stars but I focused hard on it and it turned the right way up.
gosh I have had so many dreams. the most recent one being of translucent angels with a mixture of blue, red, yellow, white and pink colouring flowing through them flying through the clouds and had come to collect people. People were freaking out and those that were scared hid in apartment buildings and many other places while chaos broke loose on the streets and other people ran.

I woke from my dream gasping for air. I don’t remember all of the dream….only the ending. Two hefty men (angels) were carrying me to the sky. I even felt the movement of their wings flying in each side of me. I opened my eyes to see the clouds parting and the suns warmth on my skin. A realistic calm feeling rushed over me and I woke up out of breath and gasping for air. Most realistic dream I’ve had in my 30 years.
i had a dream last night and i was getting images in my head and emotions that came with these images like my girlfriend and me kissing i saw and i felt anguish love and fear all at the same time i assume since things arent going so well then i remember after that seeing a old wooden cross on a wall and feeling almost resentful at myself then i found my self on my knees with four black angels walking towards me with a bright light behind them they hten walked up to me and grabbed me and started draging me towards the light i was totally limp i couldnt move any part of my body and i remember feeling conquered…. i prayed to god the other day for my girlfriend not to leave me and i have a feeling im being punished for the things ive done but im not sure ive read other stories of people seeing 4 black angels and going to the hospital and having cancer……any biblical people with any clue as to what an 19 year old kid seeing 4 black angels in his dreams should do im scared.
Okay. I had a dream. I had huge white wings. The dream was silent and I was standing infront of a mirror looking at them I tested them and stayed a 1 foot off the ground for 10 seconds. I felt them and they were softest things I have ever touch they felt real.. I was standing in water like clear water but I was on top of it and so was the mirror and coy fish were swimming under neath me.. What does this mean.. I’m highly confused.
I dreamt of two male angels. One with white wings blue jeans ,not wearing a shirt he appeared not to be alive. Then a very big angel ( male) his body was made of clouds lifted him up and there was a window in the sky he then place him in through the hole moments later the angel in blue jeans fell from heaven.

it seems to me… that their are a few theorys i have come up with… 1…the angel in blue jeans…wasnt dead…but was near…in this case possibly from committing sin… and so he was sentenced to death… and the big angel that was made of clouds… was the angel of death… think of it…big…made of clouds…swift…and quiet as the air… free to move as he pleases to take those which must die…as swiftly and quietly as the wind and as the clouds and the reason he put him through the window… was maybe…it wasnt a window…thats just all that you could percieve it as… but the reason he was put through the window…was because it was stripping him of his angelic rights of heaven…and so he fell… from heaven…not as an angel of heaven anymore… but a fallen angel of sin… (as for the rest i dont really feel like typing now so yeah hoped this helps)

When i was a baby before i hit consciousness i dreamt of a woman in white holding me this was my first memory and i forgot about it tell only a year ago… who was the woman in white was she the Virgin mary or an angel? I have this dream I’m in the middle of nowhere I’m alone but I feel fine I’m looking out towards the ocean I hear this women say my name but I can never catch hers but she looks like me only she doesn’t she has long black hair and black clothes they are flowing but she has knives everywhere she has eyes las blue as cobalt and her wings they look like the night sky dark but it’s like I can see the stars in them she doesn’t smile much but more often then not she looks more determined then anything she’s always helping me through these cave s and up mountains sometimes we talk but mostly we just look at these places that she takes me they are the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen but it’s like she is the darkest soul I’ve ever met I feel safe when I’m with her but the couple of time I have talked to her she tells me that what she has done can never be undone or forgiven but she doesn’t feel bad I think she feel more alone then anything like I’m the only one she got I don’t understand it’s like I have a connection with someone I only have in my dreams… Please tell me I’m not crazy
last night, i dreamt of being of carrying a little boy i do not know. We were in a big field when this lady in white started dancing so gracefully. the skies were so blue that it felt very peaceful and calm. suddenly angels with multicolor wings started flying dancing and singing up in the sky. it felt so wonderful and right there, while holding this child, i thank God for hearing my prayers. when i woke up, everything seems so light and i am happier. i dont know what it means, i have lots of prayers and i believe God heard them all and is just waiting for the right time and moment to give me what i deserve.
