Angels are messengers from God. They protect us, guide us, or carry out other heavenly tasks.
Therefore, angel dreams symbolize a greater force that is watching over us, directing us, sheltering us, or trying to show us something important, which is hidden. The important part about angel dreams, is in translating the message within, based on what is currently happening in our spiritual and physical life.
The message can be a shared joy of something divine that has happened, a blessing of good things to come, or a warning of something we should prepare for.
Interpreting Our Dream About Angels
To interpret our dream, we want to pay special attention to the angels.
- What were the angels wearing? What is the color and texture of their wings?
- What were the angels carrying?
- Is there only a single angel or multiple angels?
- Are our dream angels male or female?
- What were the actions or expressions of the angels?
What were the angels wearing
The color and material of the angel’s clothes and wings, are part of the message that they convey.
- White clothes and wings indicate purity, peace, blessings, and rejuvenation. We may be at peace with ourselves and our life. Alternatively, the white angels may be telling us that to achieve inner peace, we need to seek greater spiritual support, need to be cleansed, and need to focus on the purity of our actions.
- Colorful clothes and wings suggest playfulness and joy. We may be looking forward to something happy and hopeful in our future, which could be a new relationship, new job, promotion, inheritance, or some other good fortune.
- Black clothes and wings signal a warning of some kind. Our physical or spiritual well-being could be in danger, we could be burdened by sin or guilt, and we may need to take some action to heal ourselves.
What were the angels holding
The items held by the angels or carried on their person, will also have great significance. We want to examine each object carefully, explore what each of them symbolizes, as well as what they each mean to us.
- Objects of knowledge such as a book or scroll, indicates greater clarity for the future, and confidence in our actions.
- Objects of war such as a sword or staff, signals that we may be experiencing some inner turmoil in our life or some disturbance in our soul. We may need to do battle to regain our spiritual equilibrium.
- Objects of love and peace such as an olive brand or a dove implies hope, care, devotion, and self-sacrifice. We may have a difficult journey ahead of us, but we have faith in a brighter future.
- Food and drink suggests that we are in need of spiritual nourishment. We may be feeling depleted and tired as a result of our daily struggles. The angel may be telling us that we need to take some time for ourselves, and refocus on our inner self and spiritual well-being.
Number of angels
- A single angel indicates a purity of purpose and action. We need to cast off distractions, and focus on the thing that is most important to us.
- Three angels signals harmony, completeness, and the divine. Indeed, the triad or trinity is a powerful symbol with deep roots in culture and history. In Greek mythology there are three Fates, the triad also plays a central role in Celtic religion, and of course, there is the Holy Trinity. Therefore, a message carried by three angels is very potent, and may involve all of our body, mind and spirit.
- Multiple angels suggest good fortune, divine support, or spiritual fortitude. Angels guard and guide us. Therefore, having multiple angels watching over us, is a sign of great protection, and also an indication of a promising future.
If we are one of the angels in our dream, then likely, we have done something good and pure, we are planning to embark on a journey of spirituality, or planning to do God’s work.
Male or female angels
- Femininity is associated with the Venus symbol, which captures love, beauty, prosperity, and fertility.
- Masculinity is associated with the Mars symbol, which captures war, savagery, guardianship, and virility.
The masculinity or femininity of the angels in our dreams, also constitutes part of the message that they carry.
Actions, expressions, and environment
Finally, actions and expressions are also important. What did the faces of the angels convey, and how did we feel in their presence?
- A calm expression indicates that we are looking for some peace and quiet. Our life may be hectic at the moment, and we may need some protection from our daily noise and activity. We may be seeking sanctuary, some time for reflection, or spiritual comfort.
- A happy expression signals that we are feeling confident about our present and future. It may also signify a recent positive achievement, or the expectation of some imminent good news.
- A sad expression suggests future challenges and possibly heartache. However, we have a guardian angel watching over us, so we will ultimately prevail.
- An angry expression implies some mistake, wrong-doing, or sin. We need to admit our mistake, make amends, and try to do better in the future.
Similarly, the actions of our dream angels also carry meaning. An angel that is brandishing a sword in warning, will have a different message than one who is handing us his sword, or one who is standing still, with his sword pointed to the ground.
If we are being handed something, then we may need to perform an important task, or go on a quest for our spiritual well being. The nature of the task or quest will rely on the object handed to us. On the other hand, an angel standing with his sword pointed down, may be guarding us from something. Perhaps we need to be vigilant, check our spiritual defenses, and watch out for sinful temptations that may lead us astray.
Actions may also indicate immediacy of the message, in particular, whether we need to attend to it very soon, sometime in the near future, or NOW!
The environment surrounding our angel is also important. An angel standing in the middle of a storm, signifies spiritual turbulence, whereas one who is standing in a calm pool of water, signifies peace and relaxation.
Are Dream Angels Real?
When we dream of angels, there is always the question of whether the angels are real and sent by God, or whether they are a manifestation of our subconscious mind.
Studies show that a large percentage of Americans believe in angels.
- A poll in 2008 by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion, shows that 55% of 1700 respondents, believe that they were protected from harm by a guardian angel.
- A 2007 Pew poll revealed that a whopping 68% of respondents believe that angels or demons are active in our world. Up to 20% describe encounters with either a heavenly or demonic being.
However, some argue that angel dreams and visitations are the result of our subconscious mind only. They further propose that visitations that occur during the day could be the result of lucid dreaming. It could also be the result of a hallucination or trance.
Are angels real?
As with all things spiritual, that is difficult to prove or fully disprove. The belief in angels, I think, is a very personal thing.
However, if through belief we gain hope, solace, and spiritual strength, then isn’t that the very purpose of an angelic guide and protector? And if so, then perhaps angels exist within us, if we but dare to see.
I had a dream that the devil wanted to meet with me he had one of his henchmen chase me to his lair. And his gatekeeper was saying who could get in I turned around trying to find a way out and I seen 3 angels all look very small holding little spears and they had black wings and the gatekeeper said I could come in but my angels where not aloud in I was very scared My angels looked as if they where sad because they didnt want me to go in. Don’t be so easy to go many places. Think about places that Jesus won’t be. But the angels will. Sometimes the devil wants you to give a message that his world is real. To wake up from the dream before anything happens is a sign you will survive. Just thank God he shield you from any troubles. Pray for friend and family.
I just dreamt of a male angel with soft white wings, 4 in all and the inside wings were smaller than the outside. he had no shirt on and I was touching his wings. He had a sense of love and urgency. he was taking me somewhere and said he needed to change my identity (name) and I remember feeling safe but this was something important and I would not be able to see my family anymore. I don’t have any idea what this means.
I dreamed of hundereds of angels in white with Jesus and a cross all around them was beautiful colors…….I hit my knees and cried father take me with you. but they could not……I felt happy safe and loved……..but I also felt they where in a hurry to do something……karma
There was a noise downstairs and stuff walking up then I saw many Knights in armor with swords just watching me. Mind you I was awake because I awoke my grandma I was sleeping with ( I was 5).

Maybe it means that someone out there is protecting you from danger. I know that this is a late reply, but I think so because they were watching you. That meant that someone is watching you, but they also had armor, which most likely meant that the person who is watching you, is protecting you.
Last night I dreamed I was at a party in a large and well-lit place. It almost looked like a fancy wedding reception, but it wasn’t a wedding. Several angels were dancing in an open area. There were big windows with sunlight coming in and there were three or more of them dancing. Beautiful colors and sparkles surrounding them. I couldn’t see wings, but I knew they were angels. One stopped and stood and faced me. I don’t think she said anything, but she stood and look peacefully at me. She was beautiful. I don’t remember any more.
One time I had this dream that I was at school with my friends and all the sudden the sky turned this white color and it was beautiful but scary because it felt so realistic and then a cloud of some smoke started pouring out and a Angel was there she was I’m front of me and she was floting, she was dressed in white with white wings, had light brown hair and pale skin at the same time she started coming from the sky this music started playing like a harp and that music that they play I’m some churches ( kinda that scary music that the chorus of men going ahhhh ) also her eyes were closed the whole entire time she never opened them and she was playing a harp she mubbled at first but then she kept saying “16” and over over again then when I woke up I was sweating and I felt like there were people in my room with me and that night I slept next to my mom and that was about a year ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday! I asked my friend who is Christian and she said that maybe its a message and she told me that god sends message to us in our sleep but always think what did that dream mean and why do I rember it so well! Can someone help?? BTW I’m not that religious I don’t even think about religion at all!!
This dream I had many years ago as a teenager but I still remember.
In my dream there was chaos all around buildings falling statues crumbling. I was running through water pushing through depri and dead bodies. Fire was falling from the sky and I was scared looking for my family. In my dream as I was running through the water watching the fireballs fall from the sky 12 doves in the shape of a V flew over me and all of the doves landed on the water right in front of me. The doves turned into 12 Angels and the Angels told me be ready it’s coming….
Then I woke this was almost 15years ago when I had this dream and it’s still clear as day.

funny Ellen I had a similar dream..two days ago….destruction, chaos every where..the roof of the house I was in opened up…saw a multitude of angels all in white coming down from the clouds….I said is this the end…a voice in the back ground said YES this is the end…..I gathered from this particular dream to be READY SPIRITUALLY get things in order….

That angel was telling you that there is still hope. God is willing to give you a chance ! So open up your heart to him, and keep repenting so that you will make it in. Go to church weekly so you know about the bible alot. Even tell the priest for help !
I had a dream I was talking to some doctors who had just left the room – one came back a man with bushy eyebrows and mustache, when I asked him who he was his facial hair became coppery, golden and glowing, he rose up so tall, white robes, I looked behind me to see other angels there – the began to sing “we are the archangels, we let no creature or truth escape our notice” – then they showed me a house, white run down and the house number 7153, they sang another word and I woke up. I had been meditating earlier in the day about a girl who had gone missing in Florida that same day. I woke to think it related.
I had a dream about 2 years ago. It was of a very tall muscular perfect golden man. he was bound and gagged tied to a stake ready to be burned. There was a crowd of my entire family…minus my wife and children. And others i have seen but not met. I got the impression of the entire community i live in. I couldnt let them destroy him he was too beautiful. So i ran up and loosed his bonds and freed his mouth. It was when he looked at me that i perceived his nature. Absolute malevolence and chaos but there was something else. I cant put my finger on it he grabbed me by the throat and he was so powerful i knew there was nothing within me to save myself from him but he couldnt harm me in any way. So it was then he turned his attention to the crowd and the malevolence and chaos spread to them and they lost their minds and attacked one another and ate one another. I ran and hid. I remember him tempting me to come out my mother came after me to try and entice me out she was wounded and rotting but still alive. I was repulsed by all i saw and felt and smelled and heard. All the while the golden man reveled in the chaos.. the chaos i loosed.
Mine wasn’t a dream. I woke up and was staring at the legs of an angel beside my bed. He was very tall, head to the ceiling. He was wearing what looked like form fitting black armor. Sword pointed down. Hands clasped in front. Black wings. I felt no fear but had the most peaceful feeling flood over me. Before I could look up at his face he disappeared. This was last year.

I also had a dream last night.a man in white robes came to me with either hay or straw I cant tell the difference between the two.He would not show me his face he said nothing but the scenery was peacefull as if we were standing in a breezey medow I stood there and he stood there and keept holding his handfull offer of hay wright infront of me the moment seemed to last for eternity and I never looked at his face because his face was to bright to look at I thought wow mabey this is god or his very son I saw his sandals his robes up to his chest as if I were a child myself.in my dream I was a yound boy I was short and phsically weak not able to defend myself like now in my full grownup form.It has been 8 months or more since I dreamt almost a year I almost forgot how to dream and thought it was hopeless and dead inside then a man appears in a dream a peacefull meadow with hay in his hand offering it to me hiw could this be happening to me I dont understand the Message.Is the son of god or god trying to tell me something.I usually try not to bother god about my life because I believe he has done so mutch allready im alive my family is fine im 28 everyday has a challenge he gives me resistance I can fight it feels great.I have friends and family that love me.what else could I need.I dont understand the Dream.
not so long ago, I had /nightmare/ where I was doing sports, then suddenly I saw a black angel with a sword in his hand, I asked him things, but he didn’t answer me and suddenly flew towards me and pierced me with that sword right in the middle of my chest, I died and I woke up afterwards.
I can’t rem my dreams beginning. I only rem three blue oval stones. A stream of water, a vision in the dream of a sinking stone tablet, and a mission to save an angel from being murdered.. I wasn’t alone, there was a blonde lady who had the oval stones, she touched them n I saw water rising n the tablet sinking.. The next moment am in a van looking for swimming pools… Its a creepy dream I know but, saving that angel felt important…anyone knows what this mean.
It happened about 15 years ago.In my dream, I suddenly found myself squatting. I then saw a tall angel in white snow form.He then extended his wings towards me and abbright light was striked upon me white in colour.It was as though the angel was sheltering me.I then suddenly woke up so terrified and could not turn the light of my bedroom off.So terifying but beautiful encounter.This was the first ever dream I ever had.For 15 tears now I could try and sleep to see if I could have that kind of encounter but all in vain.Am still puzzled.What could it have meant?
A few years ago I had this Dream with an Angel, my Angel was really tall and built he was dress in black, black wings with a blue-ish tint before I saw him I had walked through 7 churches which where all attached forming a circle structure only division was the hallway which led from one church to another and each church was a different religion once I ended passing through all I found him standing there holding a key asking me to give him the other key. I didn’t know what he was talking about but he kept insisting and told me I had the other key. Never have I been able to decipher that dream. I just woke up out of a dream this morning. I ended up at my ex bf house which is a ex pastor and all of a sudden his mom stopped by we were all talking then she was like. “Did yall see her? ” It was a spirit. Being me I was like “heeyy!!” Then his mom “don’t speak to them, they might get mad” and she did. Things got crazy. Then out of nowhere an angel flew in on the couch and just looked at us so calmly and I was like “wow there’s an angel!”his mom was like “no, that’s the devil!” The angel disappeared everyone was scared once again and we started calling “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.!” Then everything wen away. I woke up. Now I’m too confused

I had a dream I was married to an archangel who battled a demon that was in human form and the angel was also in human form. I was the only human who couldn’t tell that both were non-human people. I cried and held the human who said “Are you crying?” I held him in my arms because he was injured and dying and I told him that I don’t want him to go. He smiled and then died in my arms as I cried and his body was engulfed by a very bright light. Kinda like Uriel in gold. I never knew who Uriel was until I recently read it. The angel kinda looked like Uriel. I was taken to a place very nice and cloudy because I was actually walking on clouds. I was in a white simple pretty wedding dress going down to meet him. I had to marry him or I would not see him no more. After the wedding we flew away in harmony like spiritual energy and in the sky were falling stars, not just one star but many. Down on earth they looked up and noticed the weather is weird and the sky had so many falling stars shooting across the sky. Then I woke up. Haha weird dream. After that I had a demon dream who also wanted to be with me. Glad I woke up in time because it got too weird.
i had this dream that i am inside our house and our house is surrounded by walls of fire. Then i looked out of the window and saw my family looking at the walls of fire terrified. Then i picked up mu dog and threw her out of the window. Miraculously my dog passed through the walls of fire without getting hurt and i saw my brother holding her while they continue watching from afar. And then i heard myself saying “they are safe then it’s ok”. After that i heard an voice of what i believe is an angel saying “are you ready to accept the Lord our God?” And then i said “i am ready”.
