Angels are messengers from God. They protect us, guide us, or carry out other heavenly tasks.
Therefore, angel dreams symbolize a greater force that is watching over us, directing us, sheltering us, or trying to show us something important, which is hidden. The important part about angel dreams, is in translating the message within, based on what is currently happening in our spiritual and physical life.
The message can be a shared joy of something divine that has happened, a blessing of good things to come, or a warning of something we should prepare for.
Interpreting Our Dream About Angels
To interpret our dream, we want to pay special attention to the angels.
- What were the angels wearing? What is the color and texture of their wings?
- What were the angels carrying?
- Is there only a single angel or multiple angels?
- Are our dream angels male or female?
- What were the actions or expressions of the angels?
What were the angels wearing
The color and material of the angel’s clothes and wings, are part of the message that they convey.
- White clothes and wings indicate purity, peace, blessings, and rejuvenation. We may be at peace with ourselves and our life. Alternatively, the white angels may be telling us that to achieve inner peace, we need to seek greater spiritual support, need to be cleansed, and need to focus on the purity of our actions.
- Colorful clothes and wings suggest playfulness and joy. We may be looking forward to something happy and hopeful in our future, which could be a new relationship, new job, promotion, inheritance, or some other good fortune.
- Black clothes and wings signal a warning of some kind. Our physical or spiritual well-being could be in danger, we could be burdened by sin or guilt, and we may need to take some action to heal ourselves.
What were the angels holding
The items held by the angels or carried on their person, will also have great significance. We want to examine each object carefully, explore what each of them symbolizes, as well as what they each mean to us.
- Objects of knowledge such as a book or scroll, indicates greater clarity for the future, and confidence in our actions.
- Objects of war such as a sword or staff, signals that we may be experiencing some inner turmoil in our life or some disturbance in our soul. We may need to do battle to regain our spiritual equilibrium.
- Objects of love and peace such as an olive brand or a dove implies hope, care, devotion, and self-sacrifice. We may have a difficult journey ahead of us, but we have faith in a brighter future.
- Food and drink suggests that we are in need of spiritual nourishment. We may be feeling depleted and tired as a result of our daily struggles. The angel may be telling us that we need to take some time for ourselves, and refocus on our inner self and spiritual well-being.
Number of angels
- A single angel indicates a purity of purpose and action. We need to cast off distractions, and focus on the thing that is most important to us.
- Three angels signals harmony, completeness, and the divine. Indeed, the triad or trinity is a powerful symbol with deep roots in culture and history. In Greek mythology there are three Fates, the triad also plays a central role in Celtic religion, and of course, there is the Holy Trinity. Therefore, a message carried by three angels is very potent, and may involve all of our body, mind and spirit.
- Multiple angels suggest good fortune, divine support, or spiritual fortitude. Angels guard and guide us. Therefore, having multiple angels watching over us, is a sign of great protection, and also an indication of a promising future.
If we are one of the angels in our dream, then likely, we have done something good and pure, we are planning to embark on a journey of spirituality, or planning to do God’s work.
Male or female angels
- Femininity is associated with the Venus symbol, which captures love, beauty, prosperity, and fertility.
- Masculinity is associated with the Mars symbol, which captures war, savagery, guardianship, and virility.
The masculinity or femininity of the angels in our dreams, also constitutes part of the message that they carry.
Actions, expressions, and environment
Finally, actions and expressions are also important. What did the faces of the angels convey, and how did we feel in their presence?
- A calm expression indicates that we are looking for some peace and quiet. Our life may be hectic at the moment, and we may need some protection from our daily noise and activity. We may be seeking sanctuary, some time for reflection, or spiritual comfort.
- A happy expression signals that we are feeling confident about our present and future. It may also signify a recent positive achievement, or the expectation of some imminent good news.
- A sad expression suggests future challenges and possibly heartache. However, we have a guardian angel watching over us, so we will ultimately prevail.
- An angry expression implies some mistake, wrong-doing, or sin. We need to admit our mistake, make amends, and try to do better in the future.
Similarly, the actions of our dream angels also carry meaning. An angel that is brandishing a sword in warning, will have a different message than one who is handing us his sword, or one who is standing still, with his sword pointed to the ground.
If we are being handed something, then we may need to perform an important task, or go on a quest for our spiritual well being. The nature of the task or quest will rely on the object handed to us. On the other hand, an angel standing with his sword pointed down, may be guarding us from something. Perhaps we need to be vigilant, check our spiritual defenses, and watch out for sinful temptations that may lead us astray.
Actions may also indicate immediacy of the message, in particular, whether we need to attend to it very soon, sometime in the near future, or NOW!
The environment surrounding our angel is also important. An angel standing in the middle of a storm, signifies spiritual turbulence, whereas one who is standing in a calm pool of water, signifies peace and relaxation.
Are Dream Angels Real?
When we dream of angels, there is always the question of whether the angels are real and sent by God, or whether they are a manifestation of our subconscious mind.
Studies show that a large percentage of Americans believe in angels.
- A poll in 2008 by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion, shows that 55% of 1700 respondents, believe that they were protected from harm by a guardian angel.
- A 2007 Pew poll revealed that a whopping 68% of respondents believe that angels or demons are active in our world. Up to 20% describe encounters with either a heavenly or demonic being.
However, some argue that angel dreams and visitations are the result of our subconscious mind only. They further propose that visitations that occur during the day could be the result of lucid dreaming. It could also be the result of a hallucination or trance.
Are angels real?
As with all things spiritual, that is difficult to prove or fully disprove. The belief in angels, I think, is a very personal thing.
However, if through belief we gain hope, solace, and spiritual strength, then isn’t that the very purpose of an angelic guide and protector? And if so, then perhaps angels exist within us, if we but dare to see.
I had a dream last night at around 9 or 10 am. I saw Angeles came and told us to move away from our home since there were some robbers coming to attack us at 10 or 11 am.The Angeles were moving very fast taking our things out from the house and packing them in a vehicle outside. In the dream we were in apartment second or third floor and not even one of our neighbors heard us moving. It took us very short time to move out with our things. Please interpret for me.
I don’t know how to start but here it goes
A couple weeks ago I was having severe pain in my right side cause my liver was failing so I woke up at one am crying in pain and just fell asleep… In my dream or vision, I saw dark clouds with light shining through I was paralyzed and couldn’t move then I turned my head saw disaster everywhere. Roads tore up , cars that looked as if a tornado and earthquake came threw. I finally look up and saw a man figure holding a long sword shield brown curly hair and colorful outfit he comes down by my side as if he were healing me. Let me know what you guys think!

Last night i dreamt about me with my family. We were having a good time and then suddenly everything changed and it was all panicking…Then there’s a change again.. am running hurriedly getting down the stairs with a guy behind me all in black when i turned behind i saw he had black wings and he was in panic/terrible all ready to fight. Behind him i saw something huge dangerous and something flying trying to get me. I couldn’t see what exactly it was…..The scene again changes and now am down on a road with huge building, building like a some tower which has a lot of steps. The guy in black with black wings has a concern look on his face and he suddenly hugs me saying everything is going to be ok..Am here..Am back… Am not leaving you anywhere ever alone again…

I dreamed that i was in unfamiliar school, and for some reason I am at the back site. After a while i noticed some black creature beside me, but I didn’t really pay attention to it. The next day of school that black creature had turned into a dog, I don’t know wether it was a demon or an angel, but for some reason I have some weird feeling of talking to it, so I talked to it and he said his name was lobbertal, and he is 8 years old, but by his maturity i thought he was 20 years old.

With my experience and there has been many since in my child hood and now I’m 59 and i have seen somethings I wouldn’t want anyone else to but usually the angels without wings are those that are very caring and usually bring peace in your life expecially if this is something that you may notice you have been wishing for sometime now.
Bout 3 yrs ago i had a dream of a female angel. She was dressed in normal clothes to find that she was a angel. Her right shoulder or right wing was hurt she was laying on the ground cause she couldn’t fly very far.i went to help her up but we never spoke to one another nor could i see her face at all.after i helped her stand up her clothes fell off to reveal her true self to me as messagner of God.she wasn’t carring anything & she was wearing white or her feathers were white.i stood about 2 steps back from her just staring once i realized what she was i fell to my knees &bowed my head & closed my eyes too. Last night I’ve had a very realistic dream.
It was when I was a marine soldier and during the battles I’ve always carried an necklace with an angel in a dress and I’ve felt safe and in peace knowing that my angel is there protect me. I’ve also remember that I had a boyfriend there who is a marine soldier too.
One night I’ve received a strange email and in the email was a blackened figure thrown out the window and there was a strange text too. So I’ve called my boyfriend and showed him and then when he clicked on a link another disturbing picture appeared then I remembered him getting all distraught that someone has targeted me and the next thing that I remember was laying asleep and five minutes before falling asleep being woken up by someone screaming and that was a daughter of women next door then I ran out of my room to see what’s happening and there was a twelve years old girl laying lifeless on the floor but there was no blood and nothing just her body and the mother in shock. When the boyfriend arrived at the scene and while I was crying and holding on my angel and the he came and held me in his arms and I also remember that I made a promise to the girl’s mother “I will avenge your daughters dead” and then my boyfriend and I had to go to do our duties and when I was going to my room, some snakelike black figure tried to bite off my leg and other black figures started attacking me and then I remember that a white light appeared in front of me and then a beautiful angel with long straight hair and beautiful clear blue eyes and protected me from those dark entities and I felt grateful and safe and in peace that I have her with me.
On our last and final battle, I remember talking to my friends and my boyfriend about what happened in the last few days and we all made our decision to fight against the dark entities together and I remember that I’ve seen the dark entities masked as humans and telling me that he’s going to die and that I replied to their provocation with “No.He’s not going to die because he’s got an angel protecting him.” And the last thing I remember was us fighting the entities and their master.
I remember everything so clearly and I’ve even seen his and the other people’s faces and even mine.

I don’t know why I keep having this image in my head every time I pray I see the universe then I see a male with the universe as his wing wings he’s kneeling and an entity is touching him with his head down he receives the touch. I recently had a dream very similar. I think i got out of a back seat if a car along with other passengers. We were walking into the house and I was the last one to go in, but before I closed the door behind me, I turned back around to look at the sky because it was just so bright that I had to turn around to see what it was. I turned and i seen a big bright white wall of beautiful clouds with multiole angels coming down but i couldn’t look directly at the clouds because His glory was so bright and I started yelling out and jumping saying “jesus is here, jesus is here” and i could hear other people in the neighborhood shouting the same thing.
i had a really weird dream. I dreamed of being in my country my village because now i moved to my husbands country and i dont like it . I only remember the feeling of being afraid that ”they” will come and war will begin. In the summer of 2004, I had gotten married to my first wife and had been living in Bogotá, Colombia for 8 months. A few blocks from my house, a new mall was under construction. I travelled from Colombia back home to Atlanta for vacation and I had lucid dream.
In the dream, I was in the lobby of the business, which I have a vision for and having a conversation with a woman about faith. While we were talking, I saw a huge sheep the size of a cow walking around the lobby and I asked, “What is this sheep doing here walking around?” It was so out of place. Then I heard a knock at the door and I went to answer it. There was a man with a red orb in his hand and he proceeded to toss it inside of the business. In that instant, the sky turned blood red and there was a great storm. The wind was so strong that it blew the door off the hinges. Then, I looked up at the sky and an angel appeared with his arms outstretched and the storm was over.
He flew down to the doorway where I was and I asked him if he could help me fix the door. He proceeded to blow on the door and it was fixed. In my amazement, I said, “Thank you Raphael for helping me fix this!” and I woke up.
The dream was so supernatural that my first thought was if I tell someone about this dream, nobody is going to believe me. So, the holy spirit told me to tell my pastor. After I finished telling him the dream, he said, “I’m no interpreter of dreams, but here’s what the dream means”. He said that the sheep in the dream represents God’s people. In the new testament of the Bible, there’s several references to God’s people as sheep. So, given the size of the sheep in the dream meant that I would be talking to a large number of people about faith. The angel was the Archangel Raphael, which represents God’s protection.
After our conversation, I had a lot of curiosity about Raphael, because I knew that the only two archangels that were named in the Bible were Michael and Gabriel. So, how was it that I knew the archangel’s name in the dream? I did some research and interestingly enough, Raphael is mentioned in the book of Tobit, which is one of the forbidden books or (apocrypha) that were not added to the bible. The archangel Raphael has the chief role to support, heal, and guide in matters involving health. Raphael means “God heals” or “He who heals” in Hebrew. Many believe that it is derived from the Hebrew word Rophe, which means “medicine doctor”. In Catholicism, he is Saint Raphael, the patron of healing, physicals, travelers, and matchmakers.
My name, Jason in Greek means “one who will heal” or “healer”. In reflection, I thought about how all my life, people have always felt comfortable with me to reveal their personal lives and innermost secrets. I also spent the majority of my professional career in the U.S. as a personal trainer and reflexologist. I did not had a dream about Raphael, but I encountered a real person (a stranger to me) named Raphael, who saved me from a drunk man, while travelling, who was intruding my space while waiting on a bus in the dark. Before seeing Raphael I called out to God in desperation (in my heart) because I had no husband or friend to protect me from that drunk man.
While this Raphael was coming on the scene to take that drunk man away from me, I noticed that he had a tattoo on his arm of no other then Jesus Christ.. with one(?) outstretched hand towards me. Asking Raphael why he had such kind of tattoo he answered “Because of my father”…..
I believe without a doubt that God sent that man, who also was a saving angel to me.

I had a dream about me walking towards my house and I saw something sitting on top of my house with full long wings as I went to open the the I heard something say I want to talk to you I looked behind me and he was looking on the edge of my house at me like upside down? He approached me in a calm way and I was silent I noticed he had big eyes and light hair he told me he heard my prayers about wanting peace, I believe I was getting upset and I fell to my knees then I woke up. I was shocked in a way and I told my boyfriend. Just wanted to share my dream and see if it can be interpreted, or meanings.
I dreamt of angels three different times in a month. 1st time, the angel was with the most beautiful pinkish lavender feathers and I was amazed was looking up at her. The 2nd time, was with airy white feathers. The 3rd time, the angel was in the same room with me. The room had lots of boxes. I could see the very large earthy white feathers on the side of the box where the angel was. I was moving toward it but it was moved hehind another box.
I had a dream/vision last night. I awoke and saw a dark figure standing at the foot of my bed. I looked around the room and everything seemed normal. My dog was asleep by the bed, my wife was lying next to me. Then the walls opened up and I could see angels and demons fighting all around me. I was so terrified I could not move. I tried reaching for my wife to wake her, but I couldn’t. My body was convulsing and trembling and I could not speak. Only whimper. The battle before widened and I could see thousands of angels fighting all around. I could still see my wife lying next to me and my dog on the floor, but the walls were replaced by the angels of heaven and hell. I began to pray for protection, and as soon as I was done, the walls returned to normal and I stopped convulsing from fear. I was able to move my whole body again, and the figure i had seen by the bed was no longer there. I do have the gift of discernment, but can anyone help with what this might mean? I remember thinking to myself that I was awake and not dreaming, but it was very frightened when I saw all of the torment around me. Never had this happen before.
omg, This is so frighting, I had the same “dream” when I was a kid. In my grandmother´s nursing room, maybe I was seven, the wall opened, and there was a hill, beneath the hill there was a river like lava, angels where foing toward it, and on the other side there was the fight between angels, some of them where impaled, then an angel that resembeled Christ touched my soulder and told me “soon”, and the wall closed… Years later the movie The Prophecy came out and there was that scene, with the impaled angels. Im 35 now, and I can remember everything about it.
