- Fire is a symbol of rejuvenation. It can cleanse and purify.
- Fire sustain us, but it can also destroy. We need warmth to survive, but uncontrolled fire can cause untold pain and destruction.
- Fire can provide illumination and show us the way when we are in the dark.
- Fire is also a symbol of war, might, aggression, and male power.
- Fire is linked to transformation and change. For example, the Phoenix is a bird of fire that after death, is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor.
Which of these meanings fire has in our dream will depend a lot on the surrounding context. In particular,
- Kindling a fire to serve our purposes is very different from a fire that is blazing out of control.
- A fire that warms and comforts us is different from a fire which causes fear and excruciating pain.
- The objects and people associated with the fire are also important.
This is why in dream interpretation, it is important to remember the details of our dream, for example through the use of a dream journal.
1. Dream of Fire and Control
If we dream that we are in control of the fire and are using it to serve our own needs, then fire has a positive meaning. It also signals that we want change to occur.
- Kindling a fire for others indicates that we are helping or guiding those around us. Sharing a campfire can also express a need or interest in socializing and companionship.
- Kindling a fire in our home, particularly during cold or inclement weather, suggests some imminent good fortune, we may be trying to conceive, or expecting a visit from close friends or family.
- Kindling a fire while on a journey shows that we are being creative, innovative, or leading a new venture.
- A controlled fire burning in the hearth signals comfort, warmth, and light. We may be contented with our current state of affairs. Searching for a hearth fire in our dream, may signal that we are seeking comfort and illumination in our life.
If the kindled fire is extinguished by rain in our dream, it could suggest a loss of money, job, comfort, or security.
On the other hand, if we are setting an uncontrolled fire with the purpose of destroying people, objects, and property (i.e. arson), then we are likely harboring some jealousy, bitterness, or hatred in our life toward a co-worker, friend, or relative.
- Dreaming we are setting fire to ourselves, indicates that we may be experiencing extreme stress or emotional turmoil in our life, and feel like we are burning up. It may also indicate that we want to remove some aspect of our life or personality.
- Dreaming we are a firefighter or are trying to put out a fire suggests that there are many complicated and high stress problems that are demanding our attention. There are perhaps many challenges that we may have to face and we will need to work hard to overcome them. Trying to stop a fire can also express a desire to prevent change in our life.
- Dreaming we are a fire eater shows that we have strong emotions, but they are currently being kept under control. However, if we become consumed by the fire, then our emotions may be starting to overwhelm us.
- Dreaming we are worshiping fire expresses a love for war or conflict. We may feel strongly that a resolution can only be achieved through the use of force or physical might. It may also indicate a wish for finding a more masculine partner, or the need to cultivate more masculine qualities in ourselves.
2. Dream of Fire and How We Feel
How we feel during our fire dream is also very important.
Feeling pain from being burned by our dream fire, may indicate that our current life situation is threatening and painful. There could be an unresolved issue that is causing us subconscious pain. We may be consumed by ambition, anger, frustration, and other strong emotions. We may be going through an emotionally painful break-up, or having difficult problems at work.
If we are struck by pain or discomfort from the heat of a blaze or feel its bite on our face, we may be worried of being the subject of slander, jealousy, spite, or other types of verbal and emotional abuse.
Feeling good or excited from seeing our heart on fire suggests strong positive emotions or love for someone in our life. We may currently be in an exciting relationship, and have intense desire toward our current partner.
Feeling tired or nothing at all from being burned by fire suggests that we are feeling burned-out or unmotivated.
Feeling fear and great uncertainty from a large out of control fire or firestorm signals a worry for insubordination, civic disorder, or chaos around us. There may be signs of unhappiness and insubordination at work or we may worry about social unrest in our current area. More black smoke indicates greater danger.
Feeling cool and comfortable in a fire represents a pure heart. We are confident of our current course in life, and are certain of our faith and decisions. There are no unresolved issues or deceits that are troubling us.
Feeling protected and safe in a fire may mean that we have a trusted partner or a strong support group of friends, family, or co-workers that will help keep us safe from whatever adversity that may arise in our life.
3. Dream of Fire and Objects
The objects in our fire dream are also very important for interpreting its meaning.
1. House.
A common object that appears in many fire dreams is a house. Our house or home often represents us or our family. Dreaming that our house is on fire may indicate large changes that are coming and uncertainty over those changes. It may also reflect tumultuous personal emotions, loss of mental peace, or being overwhelmed by strong feelings.
A raging uncontrolled fire in our town signals broader issues affecting our community. There could be economic issues that cause job losses or political unrest.
Finally, seeing the ruins of our house or town after a fire indicates loss and sadness. We may be worried of losing someone or something important to us (e.g. family, friends, job, money), or have recently experienced such a loss in our life.
2. Fire extinguisher.
Trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher represents a desperate need to suppress emotions and desires, or avoid changes that are happening in our life.
3. Other people.
If we see another person being burned, it shows that we have strong feelings or emotions toward that person. Whether those feelings are positive or negative will depend a lot on what we are feeling in our dream, and whether the person is comfortable or in pain from the fire.
Sharing the light of someone else’s fire may indicate a desire to share in the knowledge and companionship of others. We may be feeling lonely or stagnant, and be yearning for experiences with new people.
The Meaning of Fire Dreams
To interpret the meaning of our fire dreams, we want to pay attention to –
- Whether we are in control of the fire. In particular, did we start the fire and is the fire currently being used for our comfort, safety, and illumination.
- What we feel with regard to our dream fire. Were we afraid of it or comforted by its warmth? Were we comfortable and renewed by the fire, or did we feel pain and fear?
- Other objects and people in our dream.

I have had dreams of fire before, never have they ever been comforting. They always induce fear in me. When I was a teenager I would have nightmares of balls of fire falling from the sky. The fire would incinerate anyone and everything it touched. It was like God was punishing us. My family and I would run and try to hide and dodge the flames. It was always dark in my nightmares. Last night I had a dream that someone started a fire on my back door’s steps. I watched from the upstairs window the flames take hold. I was very scared and tried to get help. My dead grandmother appeared in my dream in the front of my house with her long time friend. I called out to her for help and it was like she couldn’t hear me. Finally I was able to get ahold of the police, but when they came the fire was gone and there was no damage to my house. I caught the person who started the fire with his friends and they all didn’t want to go to jail so they all tried to commit suicide. I tried to talk them out of it because it was not worth losing their lives over. I tried to save them all but was only able to save the one who started the fire. The other two jumped in front of a subway train. There was no blood or bodies found. I do not understand what this last dream means.

Woke up from a dream where I found out someone I let stay with me. burnt my house down while I was away. I didn’t see the flames in my dream. the dream starts with me being happy doing things I enjoy, lots of family then a person i didnt know well burnt my home down to the ground and i wasn’t told only found out because i over heard a conversation. Then put two and two together and realized that they burnt down my house and was looking for a new place to live. After i worked so hard to get everything i had. Then everyone i knew in the dream knew and didnt tell me. they just kept making suggestions of things I should be doing or giving me things to have. I just had a melt down. Crying in the dream but woke up actually crying for real.

I Keep dreaming that I am at a family gathering or family party and this girl who I used to be friends with in elementary school shows up. She tells me she has put bombs around the house to explode in 10 mins. She warns me but then I am frantically trying to find my parents and dogs to get them out of the house before the house explodes. And then every time I have dreamt this i run out In enough time and as soon as the house explodes I wake up.

I dream me and my friends are inside the garage and we where about to leave. Suddenly my other friend came near us and starting up a fire saying he would like to blow the whole thing. I rush everyone to run faraway but they didn’t listen. Instead, they worried the things inside there to get burn so they say they will go later after putting away the fire. But I see it is gonna explode because there is gas inside there, I get out from the garage. Then the explosion happened. I saw my friends inside got burned including the one who started the fire. I run away as fast as possible, then the explosion is getting bigger and bigger. It happened at night. While I’m running, all the people live near there rushing to get outside to see what’s happening. I was frightened but still running. Everyone was looking at me because I ran the opposite direction as where they were heading.

Dreams can easily be manipulated by bad spirits, so don’t put stock in what they might mean. For many years, I was focused on religion as a quest, a pilgrimage, a constant striving to be closer to God. I was too open to things that I thought could bring me closer to Him, instead of focusing simply on my faith in Him. I never would have messed around with a Ouija board, but I didn’t realize that a lot of the things that I was open to were just Ouija boards in another form. I was always looking for signs and messages from the spirit world, and this left me vulnerable to a spiritual attack by an evil spirit. After this experience, I know that the devil and his demons exist, and that they strive to cause us pain. In my darkest moments, I called on Jesus for help; it was this asking him for help that saved me.

I’ve just woken from this sleep and cannot get back. First part of the dream…I was in a house party with people I know but wouldn’t usually socialise with, it was around 1 -2am It was a horrible house really mucky, dirty and messy. It was in a really small village in the middle of nowhere, we were in the valleys, nothing but hills/mountains above us with loads of old cottage type houses and bendy roads, all very close . Sat in this party next to a window, we saw a car, it was one of the alcoholics driving home, he had an old classic car with no roof, small boot and long heavy bonnet…..he tried driving up a really sharp uphill corner, couldn’t make it, started rolling backwards, his car flipped over, front to back, decapitating him, literally saw his neck snap! Ambulance taking forever to get to us and couldn’t find us. We were now outside….. we heard massive explosions, big flashing gas lights up on the mountain, people spraying gas towards us down the mountain making the whole village catch fire, bits of gassy fire balls landing on my skin and lighting my hair!! Everything on fire, no way out. I’m now wideawake.

I had a dream I was on a school bus with mostly females. I am female myself. My cousin is there and so is my mom. This particular cousin who I grew up with is in my dreams a lot. We separated when I moved to a different state.
My dream is fuzzy, but I remember working on a project with my cousin. We put a naked man and woman together and had them hug in water (still on the bus). We then lit them on fire while they were submerged in water so it was as if the bottom half of their bodies were water and the top half was fire. My mom was laughing and I remember telling my cousin that I was glad we had mostly women on the bus.

I’m not sure why, but ever since last year, I’ve had a dream about my house catching on fire during the fourth of July. It always starts out in my house, but as the dream goes on everything starts to become night time- usually when fireworks are set off and that’s when it gets weird. The dream always ends in me being outside and just staring at my house being engulfed in flames while someone,(particularly family members,) is inside the house stuck. I can’t move while this happens so I’m stuck watching. Nothing really bad happened during July to make this dream constant but it does concern me because in a day, July fourth will happen.

I dreamed of a storm brewing, that turned out to be a flock of birds as they got closer they were on fire and gathering people. I was near a church and hid in it’s concrete balcony. The fire bird examined me as I cried out in prayer and I was spared. I saw the people gathered hovering in the sky as if waiting in a line to be examined further. And in the back ground I heard of an alley of witches below them. My feeling was being spared from a rapture of evil. I was in constant prayer throughout my dream.

I just woke up and dreamed of seeing what a fire in my house in the attic had done, I was then immediately awoken soon after I just briefly seen the damaged, but all I could see in this dream was the front door off its now possible it my have not been the current house I’m living at yet it was so upsetting to me that it was a placing I was living at. The house now that I’m recalling the dream the rooms were different it looked like a 2story home attic to right upper left certainly I’m able to view entire inside of home from the street as I pulled into view of it no foreman no Police, seems it had happened many hours prior to me arriving. This is a doozie to see what would be the meaning behind such a clear vivid and very brief vision of this it lasted maybe 8 seconds at the tail end of a dream I. Progress for which I can not remember anything at all or recall how I ended up driving up to this situation. Very strange. Any comments?

I couldnt cook couldnt make any tea for my guest and then suddenly the fire broke out we tried so hard to control the fire but it kept coming out we thought the cylinder will burst and then I bought wet towel and put it onto the cylinder so that the cylinder doesn’t get burst and fire doesn’t come out.. and then I saw on the road while I was going somewhere with my sister and brother we saw burn people died on the road blocked our way.. and the police were inspecting and collecting the burn dead bodies and later I got the list of the people who died on the fire, in the list there was one of my student and their parents name. After seeing their name I cried a lot… I’m afraid what does this dream mean..??

Had a dream that a young child was in my house (I myself am a grown man) and him and I were talking about music. The dynamic seemed a bit weird because it was almost as if we were the same age in the dream, so I’d assume I was a child as well. Eventually his mother comes to pick him up and she jokingly asks me to “hurry up and carry my bag downstairs so we can leave”. In my mind, I know that this is the gentlemanly thing to do so, I proceed onward. We step outside the apartment and the boy (my friend in the dream), and upon noticing, we step back inside to see what he is doing. It turns out he’s trying to make something to eat on a stove in the, which is in the hallway hall way of my apartment (this is not where my stove is located at all). I go to the stove and see that a spatula is burning and there’s a bit of smoke and say “aww man” at the sight of the brunt spatula, but proceed onward to turning off the stove. I also notice there is a bit of grease, and upon me noticing it, the mother notices it as well and proceeds to verbally reprimand the young child, and even spanks him on his buttocks with one slap. She mentions something along the lines of “do you know what kind of grease that is” and right after that a big ball of flame arises and reaches across the room to where I am and literally stops CENTIMETERS above my head (I even feel some of the fire singe my hair a bit) it then stops, and dissipates. It was almost as if the fire darted past the mother and child and proceeded directly towards me.
After this check my head and to see if everything is ok up there and then I wake up immediately. The whole entire time, my younger brother (who I could recognize. I don’t recognize the mother or the child for that matter” is a fully grown man and is watching from the sideline, and dosent even notice the fire.

I had a dream last night of someone getting burned I felt so much sorrow and I was trying to convince the person that was going to kill the man not to begging him but the man that was going to be killed by fire wasn’t worried at all he wasn’t trying to save himself and finally when the time came I was watching but from further away and instead of a man it was a little girl that was set on fire aggressively and once she started to burn and scream I woke up.my boyfriend had to pull me up because I was actually screaming in bed… I am so disturbed by this dream I feel sad all day today crying I really want to know what this means…
