- Fire is a symbol of rejuvenation. It can cleanse and purify.
- Fire sustain us, but it can also destroy. We need warmth to survive, but uncontrolled fire can cause untold pain and destruction.
- Fire can provide illumination and show us the way when we are in the dark.
- Fire is also a symbol of war, might, aggression, and male power.
- Fire is linked to transformation and change. For example, the Phoenix is a bird of fire that after death, is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor.
Which of these meanings fire has in our dream will depend a lot on the surrounding context. In particular,
- Kindling a fire to serve our purposes is very different from a fire that is blazing out of control.
- A fire that warms and comforts us is different from a fire which causes fear and excruciating pain.
- The objects and people associated with the fire are also important.
This is why in dream interpretation, it is important to remember the details of our dream, for example through the use of a dream journal.
1. Dream of Fire and Control
If we dream that we are in control of the fire and are using it to serve our own needs, then fire has a positive meaning. It also signals that we want change to occur.
- Kindling a fire for others indicates that we are helping or guiding those around us. Sharing a campfire can also express a need or interest in socializing and companionship.
- Kindling a fire in our home, particularly during cold or inclement weather, suggests some imminent good fortune, we may be trying to conceive, or expecting a visit from close friends or family.
- Kindling a fire while on a journey shows that we are being creative, innovative, or leading a new venture.
- A controlled fire burning in the hearth signals comfort, warmth, and light. We may be contented with our current state of affairs. Searching for a hearth fire in our dream, may signal that we are seeking comfort and illumination in our life.
If the kindled fire is extinguished by rain in our dream, it could suggest a loss of money, job, comfort, or security.
On the other hand, if we are setting an uncontrolled fire with the purpose of destroying people, objects, and property (i.e. arson), then we are likely harboring some jealousy, bitterness, or hatred in our life toward a co-worker, friend, or relative.
- Dreaming we are setting fire to ourselves, indicates that we may be experiencing extreme stress or emotional turmoil in our life, and feel like we are burning up. It may also indicate that we want to remove some aspect of our life or personality.
- Dreaming we are a firefighter or are trying to put out a fire suggests that there are many complicated and high stress problems that are demanding our attention. There are perhaps many challenges that we may have to face and we will need to work hard to overcome them. Trying to stop a fire can also express a desire to prevent change in our life.
- Dreaming we are a fire eater shows that we have strong emotions, but they are currently being kept under control. However, if we become consumed by the fire, then our emotions may be starting to overwhelm us.
- Dreaming we are worshiping fire expresses a love for war or conflict. We may feel strongly that a resolution can only be achieved through the use of force or physical might. It may also indicate a wish for finding a more masculine partner, or the need to cultivate more masculine qualities in ourselves.
2. Dream of Fire and How We Feel
How we feel during our fire dream is also very important.
Feeling pain from being burned by our dream fire, may indicate that our current life situation is threatening and painful. There could be an unresolved issue that is causing us subconscious pain. We may be consumed by ambition, anger, frustration, and other strong emotions. We may be going through an emotionally painful break-up, or having difficult problems at work.
If we are struck by pain or discomfort from the heat of a blaze or feel its bite on our face, we may be worried of being the subject of slander, jealousy, spite, or other types of verbal and emotional abuse.
Feeling good or excited from seeing our heart on fire suggests strong positive emotions or love for someone in our life. We may currently be in an exciting relationship, and have intense desire toward our current partner.
Feeling tired or nothing at all from being burned by fire suggests that we are feeling burned-out or unmotivated.
Feeling fear and great uncertainty from a large out of control fire or firestorm signals a worry for insubordination, civic disorder, or chaos around us. There may be signs of unhappiness and insubordination at work or we may worry about social unrest in our current area. More black smoke indicates greater danger.
Feeling cool and comfortable in a fire represents a pure heart. We are confident of our current course in life, and are certain of our faith and decisions. There are no unresolved issues or deceits that are troubling us.
Feeling protected and safe in a fire may mean that we have a trusted partner or a strong support group of friends, family, or co-workers that will help keep us safe from whatever adversity that may arise in our life.
3. Dream of Fire and Objects
The objects in our fire dream are also very important for interpreting its meaning.
A common object that appears in many fire dreams is a house. Our house or home often represents us or our family. Dreaming that our house is on fire may indicate large changes that are coming and uncertainty over those changes. It may also reflect tumultuous personal emotions, loss of mental peace, or being overwhelmed by strong feelings.
A raging uncontrolled fire in our town signals broader issues affecting our community. There could be economic issues that cause job losses or political unrest.
Finally, seeing the ruins of our house or town after a fire indicates loss and sadness. We may be worried of losing someone or something important to us (e.g. family, friends, job, money), or have recently experienced such a loss in our life.
2. Fire extinguisher.
Trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher represents a desperate need to suppress emotions and desires, or avoid changes that are happening in our life.
3. Other people.
If we see another person being burned, it shows that we have strong feelings or emotions toward that person. Whether those feelings are positive or negative will depend a lot on what we are feeling in our dream, and whether the person is comfortable or in pain from the fire.
Sharing the light of someone else’s fire may indicate a desire to share in the knowledge and companionship of others. We may be feeling lonely or stagnant, and be yearning for experiences with new people.
The Meaning of Fire Dreams
To interpret the meaning of our fire dreams, we want to pay attention to –
- Whether we are in control of the fire. In particular, did we start the fire and is the fire currently being used for our comfort, safety, and illumination.
- What we feel with regard to our dream fire. Were we afraid of it or comforted by its warmth? Were we comfortable and renewed by the fire, or did we feel pain and fear?
- Other objects and people in our dream.

I dreamt when am surrounded by flames of fire. In that moment I woke up, it felt like I was just returning from a different dimension. What does this mean?
The vibrant red, yellow, orange flames of a raging fire outside my house made me wake up quickly to sit up and look out the window. I was not alarmed by it and fell back to sleep. Never before had I dreamed about fire.

i saw my mom being caught on fire as if she doesnt feel anything.we did evrything to put the fire out but shes continously burning.we drag her outside the house.a few minutes it started to rain that put off the fire.i woke up so worried thinking about it because my mom lives very faraway from me.i wanted to know what my dream is all about
I literally not too long ago woke up from. Dream that the house next door (which seemed very familiar in feeling as if I went there often – but didn’t recognize much in it) was on fire. My boyfriend, ex-best friend, sister and a guy from a show I’m watching were there all calm, hanging out :/ super weird. While I was a bit more in a panic to gather important things (passports only/a mini, hand-held safe I have – not sure why it was in that house). When I went downstairs to see what’s happened I saw a lot of magma and it was burned, black, orange, flowing and very active. I did not feel fear or anger (if I remember correctly) … And then I just woke up. Not understanding the point to that dream.
I dreamed I woke up my house was on fire an I just payed back down with my cats and watched myself die. Never tried to get out or move

I dreamt I was in a house, and fireplace was going. 2 cats were chatting. I look over to fireplace and see something. I go over to look inside ongoing fire of fireplace and see another room on other side with a evil man laughing by fireplace.
I had a dream of my house on fire well alight and I was inside alone but quickly wore my fire gear for protection and I layed down on the floor until the fire was out and stood up safe and unburned. What does is mean ?

I dreamt I turned my oven on LOW, took my son for a walk through the neighborhood & as we were turning the block I could see a hugely engulfed flame of fire from this set of apartments & the 1 burning was mine but the place where the fire took place is where my aunt stayed Years Ago. When I finally got closer to the house, the closer I got the more controlled the fire became. I went inside & used a huge bucket of water to put the fire out.
i dreamt that my daughter has a burning fire on her head and she was using her fire to light our fire at home

Many times I have face it in my dreams I’m disturbing for the dreams please help me
I just woke up from a dream. It was my birthday. We were at my dead grandparent’s house, which btw is already torn down. As I can remember, I was with my dad, two sisters, and y HS bestie. There were cakes leftover from my sister’s birthday which is actually ahead from mine’s. So.. On my right was where they hang up decorations for my bday. I can’t remember how it looked but I can recall how I felt. “Left-overs” and “Recycles”. It wasn’t like than in real life basically because I am the first-born. It was blow-the-candle time. I was the one to initiate the bday song (which I think is sad, btw) and everyone seems hesitant to sing. Then there goes my HS bestie realizing the candle wasn’t lit. So she got the lighter and handing me the cake while singing happy birthday. But the candle was never lighted. She tries few times, so did I. She left to go in some room. Then there was her kid on his toy car. I dunno but suddenly the cake was in his toy car, I was able to blow the candle out. But his toy starts to be on small fire. We can’t put it out. Me or suddenly, my mom so we set it outside the house. And behold! Across our street, where our actual neighbors’ house was, on fire. No flames at first all smoke, but it all suddenly blast.. Like a volcano erupting. There were firemen, of course. But then there were also giant insects crawling from the house. Like it was their secret hideout. We head back inside, made sure all doors and windows are closed and seal. The next I remember was having a chat with my sister then with my HS bestie. I was on the verge of sending her a message, but hey. Would it sound weird if all of the sudden, I’ll be popping on her messenger. After all, we only had likes and very few comments in each other facebook posts and stories.

I had the scariest dream, i dreamt of going to a place illegally with my family friends and then getting arrested but they took us to our apartment to confront our parents, when we arrived there we had to take the elevator, then i pressed a button two times and somehow it started flashing with flames but the elevator didn’t stop, we arrived to out floor and i was stressing and in fear going back and fourth, keep in note the fire was getting bigger and bigger, then i tried to run by the stairs but I didn’t want to forget my family, however when i arrived to the stairs the fire was everywhere i thought myself i can jump out of the step in the stairs that had fire into it and run away but then i saw my mom and sister my mom can’t run and then i waited out of stress i knew that we couldn’t make it without being burned so i woke up with stress and fear
I had a dream that there was a small electrical fire on the stove. I grabbed a cam of fire extinguisher to put it out. It will subside then relight. I’ll begin to feel fear. I said to my cousin Denise it was also in my dream look at this it won’t go out! Are we going to spray the extinguisher again at the fire. It went up a path right back up again this time in other places on the stove on the second level of the stove. The stove had many units above it. It was long and tall on the wall.
No matter how many times I spray the stay with you on the fire it kept popping up to begin to flare up. I told my cousin Neicy to tell my sister Pam about it. I thought I could put the fire out without letting Pam know that there was a fire in her house. I wanted to warn her to get my mom at the house because my mom can’t move. Fear was all over me during the dream. I kept trying to distinguish it with the canned fire extinguisher. Appointment directly at the fire in the fire go out and come back stronger and more places. No matter how I tried the fire wouldn’t go out. I have fear of the whole house burning down. I told my cousin Neicy to call 911. To call the fire department. I kept spraying and spraying trying to get the fire out. The dream in the fire got so intense I couldn’t take it anymore I woke up with fear and tears.
The house was burning but I was not scared. I went outside, took the hosepipe and put the fire out. There were people outside I did not know. I then saw two houses in the street alson fire. I did not get burned and I was not scared.
Literally the same dream but i just was with my family

I felt my Aunt was going to jail. But other than that, we qatched to fire with really no feeling at. Worried it may get outta control. But when the fire was over, it jad destroyed many houses except my Aunts.
