- Fire is a symbol of rejuvenation. It can cleanse and purify.
- Fire sustain us, but it can also destroy. We need warmth to survive, but uncontrolled fire can cause untold pain and destruction.
- Fire can provide illumination and show us the way when we are in the dark.
- Fire is also a symbol of war, might, aggression, and male power.
- Fire is linked to transformation and change. For example, the Phoenix is a bird of fire that after death, is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor.
Which of these meanings fire has in our dream will depend a lot on the surrounding context. In particular,
- Kindling a fire to serve our purposes is very different from a fire that is blazing out of control.
- A fire that warms and comforts us is different from a fire which causes fear and excruciating pain.
- The objects and people associated with the fire are also important.
This is why in dream interpretation, it is important to remember the details of our dream, for example through the use of a dream journal.
1. Dream of Fire and Control
If we dream that we are in control of the fire and are using it to serve our own needs, then fire has a positive meaning. It also signals that we want change to occur.
- Kindling a fire for others indicates that we are helping or guiding those around us. Sharing a campfire can also express a need or interest in socializing and companionship.
- Kindling a fire in our home, particularly during cold or inclement weather, suggests some imminent good fortune, we may be trying to conceive, or expecting a visit from close friends or family.
- Kindling a fire while on a journey shows that we are being creative, innovative, or leading a new venture.
- A controlled fire burning in the hearth signals comfort, warmth, and light. We may be contented with our current state of affairs. Searching for a hearth fire in our dream, may signal that we are seeking comfort and illumination in our life.
If the kindled fire is extinguished by rain in our dream, it could suggest a loss of money, job, comfort, or security.
On the other hand, if we are setting an uncontrolled fire with the purpose of destroying people, objects, and property (i.e. arson), then we are likely harboring some jealousy, bitterness, or hatred in our life toward a co-worker, friend, or relative.
- Dreaming we are setting fire to ourselves, indicates that we may be experiencing extreme stress or emotional turmoil in our life, and feel like we are burning up. It may also indicate that we want to remove some aspect of our life or personality.
- Dreaming we are a firefighter or are trying to put out a fire suggests that there are many complicated and high stress problems that are demanding our attention. There are perhaps many challenges that we may have to face and we will need to work hard to overcome them. Trying to stop a fire can also express a desire to prevent change in our life.
- Dreaming we are a fire eater shows that we have strong emotions, but they are currently being kept under control. However, if we become consumed by the fire, then our emotions may be starting to overwhelm us.
- Dreaming we are worshiping fire expresses a love for war or conflict. We may feel strongly that a resolution can only be achieved through the use of force or physical might. It may also indicate a wish for finding a more masculine partner, or the need to cultivate more masculine qualities in ourselves.
2. Dream of Fire and How We Feel
How we feel during our fire dream is also very important.
Feeling pain from being burned by our dream fire, may indicate that our current life situation is threatening and painful. There could be an unresolved issue that is causing us subconscious pain. We may be consumed by ambition, anger, frustration, and other strong emotions. We may be going through an emotionally painful break-up, or having difficult problems at work.
If we are struck by pain or discomfort from the heat of a blaze or feel its bite on our face, we may be worried of being the subject of slander, jealousy, spite, or other types of verbal and emotional abuse.
Feeling good or excited from seeing our heart on fire suggests strong positive emotions or love for someone in our life. We may currently be in an exciting relationship, and have intense desire toward our current partner.
Feeling tired or nothing at all from being burned by fire suggests that we are feeling burned-out or unmotivated.
Feeling fear and great uncertainty from a large out of control fire or firestorm signals a worry for insubordination, civic disorder, or chaos around us. There may be signs of unhappiness and insubordination at work or we may worry about social unrest in our current area. More black smoke indicates greater danger.
Feeling cool and comfortable in a fire represents a pure heart. We are confident of our current course in life, and are certain of our faith and decisions. There are no unresolved issues or deceits that are troubling us.
Feeling protected and safe in a fire may mean that we have a trusted partner or a strong support group of friends, family, or co-workers that will help keep us safe from whatever adversity that may arise in our life.
3. Dream of Fire and Objects
The objects in our fire dream are also very important for interpreting its meaning.
1. House.
A common object that appears in many fire dreams is a house. Our house or home often represents us or our family. Dreaming that our house is on fire may indicate large changes that are coming and uncertainty over those changes. It may also reflect tumultuous personal emotions, loss of mental peace, or being overwhelmed by strong feelings.
A raging uncontrolled fire in our town signals broader issues affecting our community. There could be economic issues that cause job losses or political unrest.
Finally, seeing the ruins of our house or town after a fire indicates loss and sadness. We may be worried of losing someone or something important to us (e.g. family, friends, job, money), or have recently experienced such a loss in our life.
2. Fire extinguisher.
Trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher represents a desperate need to suppress emotions and desires, or avoid changes that are happening in our life.
3. Other people.
If we see another person being burned, it shows that we have strong feelings or emotions toward that person. Whether those feelings are positive or negative will depend a lot on what we are feeling in our dream, and whether the person is comfortable or in pain from the fire.
Sharing the light of someone else’s fire may indicate a desire to share in the knowledge and companionship of others. We may be feeling lonely or stagnant, and be yearning for experiences with new people.
The Meaning of Fire Dreams
To interpret the meaning of our fire dreams, we want to pay attention to –
- Whether we are in control of the fire. In particular, did we start the fire and is the fire currently being used for our comfort, safety, and illumination.
- What we feel with regard to our dream fire. Were we afraid of it or comforted by its warmth? Were we comfortable and renewed by the fire, or did we feel pain and fear?
- Other objects and people in our dream.

I have dreamt a few times now about being trapped in a fire at work with a colleague. in the dream the fire isolates us in a room and everyone else gets out the building unharmed. I manage to drag the two of us out of the building eventually trying to keep him awake and then he is taken away in an ambulance.
I have had this dream now 4 nights in a row every night it gets longer and in more detail. according to several websites it could mean me and the person in my dream have a connection???? any ideas??

I repeatedly dream that my right foot is on fire & when I wake up next morning my foot hurts all day!
Anon says
Perhaps your subconscious is drawing your attention to something wrong with your foot at the moment that you should get checked out? Or maybe it just hurts from some exercise or something you’ve been doing? When I had a sore throat I dreamt about long strands of seaweed coming out of my mouth…

I had a dream that my nephew was out of hand and me and my sister were protecting him. He went over to this cemetery on top of a hill that was abandoned and starting running around setting fire to it. Then he hid and the fire was put out and me and my sister had to put our hands up and get arrested. Then I started crying that I was going to get blamed for this. Then I woke up. What does this all mean??

I was tied By rope to a chair unable to move while my family and loved ones were being burned alive in front of me. It was one of the most gruesome dreams I have dreamt. Curious about what it completely means

I had a dream that I was fighting off a giant man. He was so strong and everything I tried didnt stop him. So it felt like a inner strength from inside me bursted out. Before I knew it my body was ingulfed in flames. The flames werent burning me, but were more than powerful enough to destroy the giant man. Then I looked around and saw everything that I burnt. My tree out back. The grass and a bush. Then my baby neice saw me and she was so scared. She was running away from me. I chased her trying to calm her down. Finally when I caught her I put he flames out. Then I woke up. What could this dream mean?

I just recently dreamed of this nightmarish place like an apocalypse happened and there was only a groupe of children led by this cult like man and I realised I was about 10 yea s old again, feeling lost/ confused/ submissive. The man took us on a hill and told us to throw these things wrapped in tin foil down the hill and into this huge landscape that was burning with fire but the flames weren’t high at all. It was mostly only ashes and burning coals. A part of me felt curious as to what was wrapped in tin foil so I unwrapped it and I relized it was a head of a man with no face. So I obviously got scared and threw it into the burning landscape. Then I started talking to the kid next to me and questioning what was going on but I got no answers.
This is probably one of the creepiest dreams I’ve had in a while. So I would appreciate it greatly if someone with knowledge replies.

I dreamed the power box exploded then later I saw another house in flames thinking ‘that could have been mind’. After returning to my house smoke was rolling around at ceiling level. My daughter fell and banged her head outside and was seen to by a TV character who then told us to go and to grab what we needed before the flames started. We were in a panic inside the house getting bits and pieces. I woke in a panic feeling the emotions of fear and panic. I was in a mess when I woke.
The house was my teenage years house but not in the actual place, it was here and now.
This really scared me. What do you think

I have dreamt I’m setting fire to other’s house. In the dream, I first talked to those people that are staying in the house I am about to burn. I know these people can be dangerous in the future so I decided to burn them. They are living in the water by the way. I think they are living in the lake. Above and floating on the lake. The two people I’ve talked to are old male. The one in one-legged incapacitated old man and the other one has health problems. They are supporting each other. By the way, when I met them, the incapacitated man was swimming while the other one was lying on a wooden floating bed. Then there it is. I took them into their house then set fire. The house is made from woods and looks ruined. The fire did not go well and was easily extinguished so I decided to use gas. I pour gas to them and the fire rapidly spread. The two managed to escape but I dragged them to the fire. I dragged also the others that are meant to be burnt to the fire. I could see them being on fire and I felt so safe. Then I saw a yellow snake. I poured gas on it and set it on fire but it just bloated and tried to attack me. It turned orange and I could clearly see the scales. I swam for my life but it managed to reach me. My dad was there and told me to kill it by stepping on its head. Since I was underwater (which I am by the way from the setting of fire), it was on my neck level so I thought of grabbing its neck until it died. Fortunately, I woke up before it attacked me.

It sounds like gossip to much talking and not enough listening. The snake depending on how big it is means telling tales. Someone might be talking or gossiping about you. The tongue is = like an evil snake. It also is a fire a world of evil among the parts of the body, it corrupt the whole person, it’s sets the whole course of life on fire and it itself set on fire by hell. See James 3 taming the tongue. Maybe you need to cut off friendships from people who are not really your friends.

I woke up today like any other day with a dream that keeps me up.I didn’t understand what it was about so i tossed it to the side. In the dream there was four things. Glass shattering, lights fading, music, and then fire.
THE DREAM:I woke up and climbed out of bed got dressed and looked at myself in the floor length mirror. I wore my hair up in a bun, dark blue skinny jeans ,a white loose maternity top and of course my black sweater i wear everywhere.Today was the day that i would see my fience at work and surprise him. I put on my black and purple sneakers and head out the door. It wasn’t that far of a walk and the weather was nice so i started heading down the side walks.
By the time i got there it was already his break so I sat down on a chair and waited for him. I must of drifted of to sleep for a second because again the only thing i saw was, glass shattering, fading lights, the soft sound of jazz music and fire. I felt something touch me and i jerked awake so see him smiling at him. Him and his soft eyes and his newly cut hair. I’m not going to lie. I miss those cruls. He kissed me then as a single tear roles down my cheek as he helps me up and walks with me to the resturant inside. The “Showus urtal ent”. In this restruant once every couple hours someone gets picked to show of a talent and entertain everyone that’s there. We sat down, ordered and as something behind be caught my attention; glass shattered.
Fear starting to form i look at him starting to shake as he looks at me. After telling him was fine some more glass shattered. Something in my head, although a whisper was trying to tell me something. The voice kept on repeating it and when i was finally able tomake out what it had said the lights went out for a split second and came back on. The voice no screaming at me GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT! i looked at him and hes rubbing my hand, my other one already on my swollen six month belly as a little boy walks up with a trombone and starts playing. That first note i stood up tears storming down my face saying over and over a”I’m sorry baby i’m sorry i love i’ve always have, i have to go i just remembered the stove was still on. I’ll see you when you come home.” he looks at me as i stood up now scared to the voice getting louder and louder.
In this moment i had the chance. I had the chance to grab his hand and pull him to safety but i didn’t. I grabbed my sweater and just as i got around the corner all i saw was meteor crashing through the building right behind me where i was just sitting and a flaming trail behind it. Crouching down and brining my sweater over my face to help me breath from the dust, dirt, flying shards of everything, and smoke. I look out the window seeing the fires as i turn back and go to the table. Nothing is there no person left alive. The only thing left of him was his now broken glasses. I pick them up and put them on as i go back to the window and look out it to the burning world.
The fire slowly starts to go away and all i see is bright clear blue skys. everything was back to normal. I felt a tug on clothes and i look down to see myself in a light blue dress anda little girl pulling at the bottom with a couple other kids all different in ages are looking at me. The little girl opens her mouth and says.” momma are you ok?” i felt the tear rolling down my chek again and nod as i pick up the little girl before kissing her cheek and says. ” yes baby girl i’m fine have i ever told you how much you look like your father?” i look at the other kids and continue talking.” Three years ago today two hundred and sixty-seven people lost their lives when a meteor came crashing down on this very spot. The weird thing about that day when the smoke cleared and a search party came i was the only person who had survived. The only person left out of two hundred and sixty-eight people.Three years ago i lost the man of my life and this little girls father. That day even though i lived a part of me died too.”
I look out the window again and catch my reflextion. i’m wearing his glasses the same broken pair in the same way i found three years ago.I felt a cold hand touch my shoulder a something brush across my cheek and neck and knew he was there with us. ” i’m sorry, i’m sorry i didn’t save you.”
so what could this be telling me?

I dreamed I was sweeping the floor in a former home in which I lived with my late husband. That home has now been torn down I saw a small hole in the floor with a spark in it. I used the broom to put out the spark and a fire broke out. I went outside with the dog and called 911.

I had a dream that i was cooking on a stove at home at my child hood home. While i was cooking i had a plate in my hand and i accidently put down the empty plate on top of the fire thus causing the plate to be onfire. I use my mouth to out the fire that was on the plate and i was sucessful of outing thr fire, but it appears to be that some of the plate particles melt down into the stove causing sm fire to be in the stove and that where the problem started. I try to turn off the stove but it kept coming on by it self. I got afraid and took up my bag which containing my pass port and other important documents. I ran out side, they were children in the house. I asked my sister to take off the gas pan for me, she tried but it didnot work. I told the children to get out side and they did so. Me and my family including my dead mom and nebours stood a far distant and was waiting to see the explosion. We waited a while and nothing happened all i could see was white smoke coming out of the house. I got a little confused because my passport was not in the bag i took up all i saw was other papers. I went close to the house to see if i could get back inside for my passport but the smoke got worst, i decided to let it go. After waiting for the explosion i saw my male cousin and he told me if my sister did lift off the gas pan it would exploded on her. After he told me that i woke up out of the dream. can someone give me a meaning of that dream.
Anthony Snell says
I had a dream that my childhood home was burning down. I was at the home before the fire started, and then I saw the flames arrive outside the window. I tried calling the fire brigade but couldn’t get through. I stayed in the house and tried to get some things, but I couldn’t pick up anything. I heard screaming outside “get out” so I left my (old) bedroom and went outside. I continued to try to contact the fire brigade with my phone but couldn’t get through – at one point I spoke to someone over the phone and he gave me another number to call. This turned out to be a chatline number.
As I watched the flames burn the whole house the rest of my family didn’t seem to mind. They were just hanging around and chatting.
When the house had burnt down I remembered thinking about insurance and hoping that I was insured – I think I probably was which gave me a little comfort. I then started to think where I would sleep. Finally, I told someone that I had lived in that house since I was 2 years old.
That’s when I woke up.

I had a dream that I was surrounded by a bad group of men in front and fire behind me. However I wasn’t afraid in the dream. I was calm and almost forgiving. The lead guy threatened to catch me on fire or blow me up, I just lifted my hands and opened my arms. He threw something into the fire and explosion happened. I sat down and let the fire take me. There was no pain and no fear. I actually woke from the dream feeling as if I needed to go look in the mirror….I felt like I had been through reincarnation.

Maybe you have been feeling trapped, going one way or the other with lack of control. But finally you came to terms with not always having to be in control and it can be a good feeling.

I just had a dream that I was at my Grandmother’s home and I was in the backyard with my sister and nieces. Out of nowhere this alien UFO – like object appeared in the sky and began throwing fireballs. We raced into the house to hide and I grabbed the water hose. It was throwing fireballs everywhere except the house. For example on the grass or the houses in front of us. I was putting the fire out in our yard. I learned that if the UFO object detected movement, that’s where they would fire at. Very weird and unsettling dream. Scary to say the least. It felt like the world was ending.

Early this morning I dreamed I was visiting my parents house. My mother had been hoovering her livingroom with a borrowed Henri hoover as her upright had broken. The portable heater from my house was in the room and was turned on. The heat from the heater set fire to the Henri hoover and felt very frightened. I woke as my Father approached the fire with a damp towel that put the fire out. I was very out of breath and panicked for about 5 minutes after waking.
