- Fire is a symbol of rejuvenation. It can cleanse and purify.
- Fire sustain us, but it can also destroy. We need warmth to survive, but uncontrolled fire can cause untold pain and destruction.
- Fire can provide illumination and show us the way when we are in the dark.
- Fire is also a symbol of war, might, aggression, and male power.
- Fire is linked to transformation and change. For example, the Phoenix is a bird of fire that after death, is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor.
Which of these meanings fire has in our dream will depend a lot on the surrounding context. In particular,
- Kindling a fire to serve our purposes is very different from a fire that is blazing out of control.
- A fire that warms and comforts us is different from a fire which causes fear and excruciating pain.
- The objects and people associated with the fire are also important.
This is why in dream interpretation, it is important to remember the details of our dream, for example through the use of a dream journal.
1. Dream of Fire and Control
If we dream that we are in control of the fire and are using it to serve our own needs, then fire has a positive meaning. It also signals that we want change to occur.
- Kindling a fire for others indicates that we are helping or guiding those around us. Sharing a campfire can also express a need or interest in socializing and companionship.
- Kindling a fire in our home, particularly during cold or inclement weather, suggests some imminent good fortune, we may be trying to conceive, or expecting a visit from close friends or family.
- Kindling a fire while on a journey shows that we are being creative, innovative, or leading a new venture.
- A controlled fire burning in the hearth signals comfort, warmth, and light. We may be contented with our current state of affairs. Searching for a hearth fire in our dream, may signal that we are seeking comfort and illumination in our life.
If the kindled fire is extinguished by rain in our dream, it could suggest a loss of money, job, comfort, or security.
On the other hand, if we are setting an uncontrolled fire with the purpose of destroying people, objects, and property (i.e. arson), then we are likely harboring some jealousy, bitterness, or hatred in our life toward a co-worker, friend, or relative.
- Dreaming we are setting fire to ourselves, indicates that we may be experiencing extreme stress or emotional turmoil in our life, and feel like we are burning up. It may also indicate that we want to remove some aspect of our life or personality.
- Dreaming we are a firefighter or are trying to put out a fire suggests that there are many complicated and high stress problems that are demanding our attention. There are perhaps many challenges that we may have to face and we will need to work hard to overcome them. Trying to stop a fire can also express a desire to prevent change in our life.
- Dreaming we are a fire eater shows that we have strong emotions, but they are currently being kept under control. However, if we become consumed by the fire, then our emotions may be starting to overwhelm us.
- Dreaming we are worshiping fire expresses a love for war or conflict. We may feel strongly that a resolution can only be achieved through the use of force or physical might. It may also indicate a wish for finding a more masculine partner, or the need to cultivate more masculine qualities in ourselves.
2. Dream of Fire and How We Feel
How we feel during our fire dream is also very important.
Feeling pain from being burned by our dream fire, may indicate that our current life situation is threatening and painful. There could be an unresolved issue that is causing us subconscious pain. We may be consumed by ambition, anger, frustration, and other strong emotions. We may be going through an emotionally painful break-up, or having difficult problems at work.
If we are struck by pain or discomfort from the heat of a blaze or feel its bite on our face, we may be worried of being the subject of slander, jealousy, spite, or other types of verbal and emotional abuse.
Feeling good or excited from seeing our heart on fire suggests strong positive emotions or love for someone in our life. We may currently be in an exciting relationship, and have intense desire toward our current partner.
Feeling tired or nothing at all from being burned by fire suggests that we are feeling burned-out or unmotivated.
Feeling fear and great uncertainty from a large out of control fire or firestorm signals a worry for insubordination, civic disorder, or chaos around us. There may be signs of unhappiness and insubordination at work or we may worry about social unrest in our current area. More black smoke indicates greater danger.
Feeling cool and comfortable in a fire represents a pure heart. We are confident of our current course in life, and are certain of our faith and decisions. There are no unresolved issues or deceits that are troubling us.
Feeling protected and safe in a fire may mean that we have a trusted partner or a strong support group of friends, family, or co-workers that will help keep us safe from whatever adversity that may arise in our life.
3. Dream of Fire and Objects
The objects in our fire dream are also very important for interpreting its meaning.
1. House.
A common object that appears in many fire dreams is a house. Our house or home often represents us or our family. Dreaming that our house is on fire may indicate large changes that are coming and uncertainty over those changes. It may also reflect tumultuous personal emotions, loss of mental peace, or being overwhelmed by strong feelings.
A raging uncontrolled fire in our town signals broader issues affecting our community. There could be economic issues that cause job losses or political unrest.
Finally, seeing the ruins of our house or town after a fire indicates loss and sadness. We may be worried of losing someone or something important to us (e.g. family, friends, job, money), or have recently experienced such a loss in our life.
2. Fire extinguisher.
Trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher represents a desperate need to suppress emotions and desires, or avoid changes that are happening in our life.
3. Other people.
If we see another person being burned, it shows that we have strong feelings or emotions toward that person. Whether those feelings are positive or negative will depend a lot on what we are feeling in our dream, and whether the person is comfortable or in pain from the fire.
Sharing the light of someone else’s fire may indicate a desire to share in the knowledge and companionship of others. We may be feeling lonely or stagnant, and be yearning for experiences with new people.
The Meaning of Fire Dreams
To interpret the meaning of our fire dreams, we want to pay attention to –
- Whether we are in control of the fire. In particular, did we start the fire and is the fire currently being used for our comfort, safety, and illumination.
- What we feel with regard to our dream fire. Were we afraid of it or comforted by its warmth? Were we comfortable and renewed by the fire, or did we feel pain and fear?
- Other objects and people in our dream.

I just dreamt last night that my daughter and me was staying in this big older home. The backyard caught on fire and so I ran up the road for help but all the other houses on the road started to catch on fire too and there was no one else around. I turned around to run back to our house and the fires started to get even worse. When I got back to the house to get my daughter half the house and back yard was up in flames but I still was attempting to run in the front of the house to save my daughter but then I woke up. This left me confused and a little scared …this is the first time I dreamt about fire any thoughts??….

I was just woken from a dream about fire. I can’t rememv having a fire dream before. In the dream I had fallen asleep talking to a friend on the phone. I heard my husband come upstairs and I woke up realizing that I fell asleep on my friend. Then I heard my children still awake. I walked towards their room and heard men talking and asked my husband if he heard it. When he said no I went back to my kids room and told my son to get back to bed and covered him up. Then my daughter was next. I covered her and noticed she had a bunch of cords she got into her bed and I was confused because where they were plugged in at normally doesn’t have an outlet or any cords (including an old curly phone cord). Looking closer at the wall I saw a tiny flame. I tried to blow on it and then my daughter got the cord again and pulled. The fire started getting larger. I screamed for my husband but nothing came out. I tried and tried to yell his name but couldn’t. Then I woke up and it’s only 10:45pm.

I am having repetitive fire dreams in which my youngest daughter and my grandson are killed in a house fire. I see the house they live in with black smoke pouring out everywhere. Her boyfriend and his grandparents are outside. I am having the exact same dream up to 4 times a week for the last several weeks. I’m really concerned over this. I have done this before.

I had a dream that three friends and I were in the woods at thus cabin, or bar. It wasn’t made clear. One of them was my fiance, the other was a girl I’ve been friends with for 10 years online, and will finally be meeting this year in June. The other I believe was her signature if I can’t other, bur that was not made clear either. Before us was a dirt road, and the forest that was surrounding it to our left caught fire due to some men setting their car on fire. I saw my online friend on a dirt bike ready to leave, I eagerly rushed toward her to run from the flames, but was held back by worry of what would become of my fiance and the other who did not follow. I stopped right before getting on the bike, and turned to watch as the four men up the road struggled to get their car to cease burning. I have no idea what this means, but would appreciate any insight!

I had a dream that there were these random men in my house using all my stuff, and my best friend and I were there, but more keeping to ourselves. We walked over to the other side of the basement we were in (which was mine) and saw three fishtanks with all of the fish I’ve ever wanted and more. Then the house caught on fire. Just the basement I only felt fear. No pain, not aggression, just fear and helplessness. I ran to try to pick up the fish tanks because I didn’t want to leave the fish to die. It wasn’t because I longed to keep them, I just feared for their safety. It wasn’t out of greed it was out of sympathy. I reached for the first tank and began to lift it and then I looked up and all the fire was gone and everyone was out of site. The lights and tv were still on like it was just a normal night. I don’t get it. Was it like me testing myself? To see if I’d save the fish? I’m confused.

I was at an outdoor festival with my family set in large fields when alll of a sudden screaming was heard, when we ran to the lane at end of field all the bushes and trees were catching fire spoteniously, even the barbed wire surrounding the fields, then words were flashing up in my minds eye but the only one I can rember is hunger!

I was on holiday alone in America. Late at night went to a store to buy some American treats. I was alone in the shop with only a woman at the till. I went to pay and saw this door half opened. Walked toward it and it was a big empty room with about 10 toddlers playing with a ball. Next minute there was a big fire in the shop lit by some armed robber who didn’t see me in the back room. Police were outside. I brought the toddlers to the rooftop and we continued to play ball as the building burned below.

I had a dream my x husband was using my car. Somehow he got out of the car and it was driving itself going all crazy. He was on the roof of the car trying to get into it to stop it. The car eventually went into a house and the house burst into flames. I just stood there in horror hoping no one was killed. No one was hurt even as another home caught fire. I was telling someone that I was glad I had insurance and that no one was harmed.

I dreamed that there was a huge explosion followed by a huge fire from seemed like a neighboring town or from far away mountain .It was visible and friends from maple ridge came to our place like an evacuation centre . A baby who died carried by the firefighter came to our place /house too because the father was there inside our house ( shelter). My feeling was neutral .

2017 was a really bad year for me. I’m going through better changes now.. but this was a bad dream
Not in detail. But there was a technical problem and it exploded. Rocks on fire was shooting up everywhere. And I guess a rock hit me and I caught on fire. And when I dropped to the floor . I “died” then woke up. Since you can’t die in a dream.

My dream has two parts. The 1st part is about water. For some reason I left my car door trunk open and it rained and my entire car flooded out. I remember seeing extensive water damage.
The 2nd part of my dream contains several fires starting inside and outside of my home. I remember a candle burning and wax dripping on to the carpet destroying it but I was able to put it out. There was then a fire started by a piece of electronis equipment, either a space heater or stereo unit or both. I remember looking for a blanket to try to smothet the fire. There were other fires I kept putting out. Then I remember looking outside again and now my car that had been under water in the 1st part was on fire and it was parked near a tree and the tree was about to catch fire. I remember a stranger in my dream and I was trying to get him the call the fire department. I think I remember a small dog that was not my dog (I own a rather large dog) in my bedroom near the fire and some of the fire ashes that were still red had landed on it. It didn’t seem to be afraid. I remember a man who had an accent and mentioned his name but I can’t remember it, Pedro or some form of Peter that was foreign. He appeared to be a roommate. I often have a border stay in my house for extra income. The man was saying good bye to me because he could not stay there because of the fire damage. Then I woke up. U

I do not dream about fire usually but this dream was short and I was standing next to a man I didn’t know when his sister (whom I also didn’t recognize) suddenly ran towards a huge bonfire (that appeared from nowhere) shouting ‘I will do it’ over & over again then she threw her long gown into the middle of the fire and jumped in after it. She screamed once as she was consumed by the fire. I watched in horror and said my god she did it! I awoke feeling disoriented, confused and upset trying to work out why I should have had such a dream?

My dream was that an old house I lived in(although it looked different and seemed to have two stories) was on fire. There was other people there but there was no rush. I feel like the fire was started to start anew life. I had stayed inside in order to find a few things that I felt like I knew where it was. But I couldn’t find my suite case and just took my purse. I had to climb out a window (for some reason I couldn’t go out the door which I had stuck my head out of minutes before to yell I was almost done. ) once out the window it seemed I walked around the house there was a tree with its roots starting to light on fire. I’m thinking that’s where the fire was started in the middle of the tree. Well for some reason the back yard was on fire so I climbed up to the side roof (this is where the second story comes into play) and I’m looking into an upstairs room as the fire gets bigger. I move along the back side roof trying to find a safe way down because what looked like lava was on the ground coming from the house. Finally I get to the end of the other side and decided to jump over the lava, I don’t jump all the way over it but landed in the lava slightly but was it burnt and felt like a water puddle even though it was lava. I made it around to the frount of the house where in my dream was 3 people I knew. One person asked if I got what I wanted I said no I left my tooth brush. She laughed and asked if I was ready to go to someone’s house as we all left the yard walking. At that point I had a bag on my back that I had no idea how it got on me. I woke up nervous because I hate house fries. I got me a drink and came to read what frie dreams mean lol. Thanks for reading

I had a dream recently. I had the ability to control fire. When I found out that I was basically a super heater I immediately disappeared, knowing the government would try to capture me and dissect me. I changed our snowy months into a blazing summer heat. I used my fire to defend myself from people trying to hurt me. I stopped dreaming and woke up in a full sweat. It’s 55°f in my room and -15°f outside. I fell back asleep to see that the world was on fire and I was laughing about it.
