- Fire is a symbol of rejuvenation. It can cleanse and purify.
- Fire sustain us, but it can also destroy. We need warmth to survive, but uncontrolled fire can cause untold pain and destruction.
- Fire can provide illumination and show us the way when we are in the dark.
- Fire is also a symbol of war, might, aggression, and male power.
- Fire is linked to transformation and change. For example, the Phoenix is a bird of fire that after death, is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor.
Which of these meanings fire has in our dream will depend a lot on the surrounding context. In particular,
- Kindling a fire to serve our purposes is very different from a fire that is blazing out of control.
- A fire that warms and comforts us is different from a fire which causes fear and excruciating pain.
- The objects and people associated with the fire are also important.
This is why in dream interpretation, it is important to remember the details of our dream, for example through the use of a dream journal.
1. Dream of Fire and Control
If we dream that we are in control of the fire and are using it to serve our own needs, then fire has a positive meaning. It also signals that we want change to occur.
- Kindling a fire for others indicates that we are helping or guiding those around us. Sharing a campfire can also express a need or interest in socializing and companionship.
- Kindling a fire in our home, particularly during cold or inclement weather, suggests some imminent good fortune, we may be trying to conceive, or expecting a visit from close friends or family.
- Kindling a fire while on a journey shows that we are being creative, innovative, or leading a new venture.
- A controlled fire burning in the hearth signals comfort, warmth, and light. We may be contented with our current state of affairs. Searching for a hearth fire in our dream, may signal that we are seeking comfort and illumination in our life.
If the kindled fire is extinguished by rain in our dream, it could suggest a loss of money, job, comfort, or security.
On the other hand, if we are setting an uncontrolled fire with the purpose of destroying people, objects, and property (i.e. arson), then we are likely harboring some jealousy, bitterness, or hatred in our life toward a co-worker, friend, or relative.
- Dreaming we are setting fire to ourselves, indicates that we may be experiencing extreme stress or emotional turmoil in our life, and feel like we are burning up. It may also indicate that we want to remove some aspect of our life or personality.
- Dreaming we are a firefighter or are trying to put out a fire suggests that there are many complicated and high stress problems that are demanding our attention. There are perhaps many challenges that we may have to face and we will need to work hard to overcome them. Trying to stop a fire can also express a desire to prevent change in our life.
- Dreaming we are a fire eater shows that we have strong emotions, but they are currently being kept under control. However, if we become consumed by the fire, then our emotions may be starting to overwhelm us.
- Dreaming we are worshiping fire expresses a love for war or conflict. We may feel strongly that a resolution can only be achieved through the use of force or physical might. It may also indicate a wish for finding a more masculine partner, or the need to cultivate more masculine qualities in ourselves.
2. Dream of Fire and How We Feel
How we feel during our fire dream is also very important.
Feeling pain from being burned by our dream fire, may indicate that our current life situation is threatening and painful. There could be an unresolved issue that is causing us subconscious pain. We may be consumed by ambition, anger, frustration, and other strong emotions. We may be going through an emotionally painful break-up, or having difficult problems at work.
If we are struck by pain or discomfort from the heat of a blaze or feel its bite on our face, we may be worried of being the subject of slander, jealousy, spite, or other types of verbal and emotional abuse.
Feeling good or excited from seeing our heart on fire suggests strong positive emotions or love for someone in our life. We may currently be in an exciting relationship, and have intense desire toward our current partner.
Feeling tired or nothing at all from being burned by fire suggests that we are feeling burned-out or unmotivated.
Feeling fear and great uncertainty from a large out of control fire or firestorm signals a worry for insubordination, civic disorder, or chaos around us. There may be signs of unhappiness and insubordination at work or we may worry about social unrest in our current area. More black smoke indicates greater danger.
Feeling cool and comfortable in a fire represents a pure heart. We are confident of our current course in life, and are certain of our faith and decisions. There are no unresolved issues or deceits that are troubling us.
Feeling protected and safe in a fire may mean that we have a trusted partner or a strong support group of friends, family, or co-workers that will help keep us safe from whatever adversity that may arise in our life.
3. Dream of Fire and Objects
The objects in our fire dream are also very important for interpreting its meaning.
1. House.
A common object that appears in many fire dreams is a house. Our house or home often represents us or our family. Dreaming that our house is on fire may indicate large changes that are coming and uncertainty over those changes. It may also reflect tumultuous personal emotions, loss of mental peace, or being overwhelmed by strong feelings.
A raging uncontrolled fire in our town signals broader issues affecting our community. There could be economic issues that cause job losses or political unrest.
Finally, seeing the ruins of our house or town after a fire indicates loss and sadness. We may be worried of losing someone or something important to us (e.g. family, friends, job, money), or have recently experienced such a loss in our life.
2. Fire extinguisher.
Trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher represents a desperate need to suppress emotions and desires, or avoid changes that are happening in our life.
3. Other people.
If we see another person being burned, it shows that we have strong feelings or emotions toward that person. Whether those feelings are positive or negative will depend a lot on what we are feeling in our dream, and whether the person is comfortable or in pain from the fire.
Sharing the light of someone else’s fire may indicate a desire to share in the knowledge and companionship of others. We may be feeling lonely or stagnant, and be yearning for experiences with new people.
The Meaning of Fire Dreams
To interpret the meaning of our fire dreams, we want to pay attention to –
- Whether we are in control of the fire. In particular, did we start the fire and is the fire currently being used for our comfort, safety, and illumination.
- What we feel with regard to our dream fire. Were we afraid of it or comforted by its warmth? Were we comfortable and renewed by the fire, or did we feel pain and fear?
- Other objects and people in our dream.

Just woke up not to long ago dreaming that my husband was stuck in a company fire and I couldn’t get to him because the firefighters wouldn’t let me. The firefighters were taking to long to get to him and they only pulled an older child out of the fire which had his face burned some. I remember feeling in the dream anxious, depressed, and thinking if I lost my husband I’d kill mysslf. Woke up crying and even went outside to look if he still hadn’t left for work. I ended up calling him, that comforted me some. I will be comforted once I see him after work.

I was making toast in a kitchen, my teenage son came into the kitchen and said he needed to show me something. I walked towards him into a bright white room. We were both amazed with the brightness and I realised I left the toaster on and sensed the urgency to go back into the kitchen. As I turned away I heard my son say “it’s real bright mum I told you so!”. I got into the kitchen and the toaster was under the table upside down burning with a bluish purple flame. It was plugged into the wall and I could see a woman kneeling near the toaster burning in bluey or purple flames. It seemed she had her arms up towards the sky like something was gonna land into her arms, she was so focused all along burning in blue. I could see I couldn’t save her from the flames as I felt I would perish with her. I thought to myself she’s already gone and her vital organs are burnt, there’s nothing I can do to save her. I could see the silouhette of her heart burning a beautiful purple orange colour. Then I realised the woman was me, I was watching myself burn in blue/purple flames. It scared me so much I woke up and I needed to remember this dream to see what it means. I’m so freaked about this and would love to know any answers. The other night I dreamt I was a French soldier with other soilders my dreams have been pretty vivid lately. Weird huh!

Tonight I had a dream that a group of my friends including my best friend Steph and my brothers and a few others were camping at a house. My one friend was pissed at me. Who was my best friend Stephanie boyfriend. I told him that we needed to talk so in anger he went outside to talk. Thankfully my boyfriend at the time followed. As The friend who was mad at me yelled at me for not excepting a certain thing and walked away. I then was speaking to my boyfriend and at the time the very upset friend that was in so much pain and suffering he decided to lite himself on fire. Suicide, He told him to leave him be. first I pushed him, to try to knock him down. Then I looked down at my hands and they were on fire just from touching him. I immediately ran to a hose to turn it on and struggled to get it to work, as I’m thinking only time is running out. Then I wake up. In reality. I am having a difficult time at work, I am currently very upset with my friend in my dream from being a horrible boyfriend to my best friend and all I want to do is yell at him but I’m trying not to for my best friend Stephanie. He causes her only pain and I hate it, but he is also a very dear friend that grew on me as a person and I’m upset to lose because bottom line he stranded my best friend in Dearborn heights after a fight of there’s and I cannot forgive him for that. What does this dream mean??????

My very first memory was waking from a dream i had when I was only three years old. The dream was about a man in blue fire. I remember feeling very hot to the point of sweating when I was near him. He held me and caressed me and all I could feel was how much we deeply loved each other. I even remember the way he smelled. It was very passionate. I woke up because the family cat jumped into my bed. Why on earth would a three year old have that kind of dream and why has it never left my memory???

I had a dream about the fire and people. Inside a big room is a group of people, who are either chatting, walking or dancing when the fire appears on the floor. Everyone seems relaxed and do nothing about the fire as it gets bigger and bigger. People should get out of the room immediately, but they’re still there chatting, dancing or playing. No one is injured in the fire.

I had a dream that I was in my flat with a friend whom I recognize but she seemed different and some how she had no face and we were talking in the kitchen and as I usually do if I talk deeply with a friend while doing something else I Tend to end up messing up something since I cannot focus in two things at once but this time I managed to do something with the gas cooker and its like when an electric fuse burst in the house but it was the gas and a dormant explosion was contained in the compartment where the natural pip gas was located and I was frozen kind of shocked and bit scared of what I have accidentally done and it felt at this moment so tense as there is an anticipation of whats next was there another expulsion or how worse will it gets . my friend was trying to rush me out of the flat as the authorities came out side and wants us to evacuate and my boy friend who was at work came rushing in to the flat worried about me and hugged me when he saw that am OK and i was just frantic to get some governmental paper work such as my passport (represent my freedom as am living in a different country ) and while he was rushing me it appeared there was something that was about to put me in danger but this being( who has female energy to her) came and took something and flew out the window but before she completely go out the window we looked at each other and I wanted to show her my gratitude and thank her she smiled (as I know no need for anything)and gone , i did not feel sad or happy that we might lose anything from our belonging and wake up feeling with a feeling of (what was that)? it felt so real and first impulse was may be its a warning and something is actually is happening so I left the bed and went to check on my gas cooker and around the flat ,everything was normal so I went back to bed and as am writing this now , I keep wondering about its meaning ,I was part of very powerful group where we did meditation on the current energy and lion gateways opening today and I also did on my own before I went to bed a golden diamond light meditation to bring some harmony to the planet and I though if this is connected as in part of the cleansing process or it another message ?!!!

I just had a dream last night that a light lacquered door was engulfed in flames. The flames were not out of control and I didn’t start it either. It just appeared to me. I feel like it wanted me to see something, to open t he door and I kept thinking in the dream should I open this door? What if something awful and terrible is behind this door? What if something beautiful is behind this door? My fear won out and I just watched as the flames danced in a mostly circular way. The flames were framing the door. I never felt there was fire/smoke on the other end. I just kept thinking(in the dream) what if? But I didn’t dare open the door.

I had a dream i was at a fair with my mother and a lot of people surrounding us. All of a sudden a plane crashed into the river, and everything surrounding it caught fire, with a massive explosion. I was confused and scared, i didnt come into direct contact with fire but i got burned anyway. I was relieved when we had escaped. later in the dream, i was stepping onto an airplane and felt very scared since i had just witnessed one crashing and exploding! But when we were finally in the air, i was very much more relaxed and relieved!!

I have dreams, off and on, of being burned by fire. Sometimes it’s dragons, sometimes it’s nuclear explosions, sometimes it is literally being on the surface of the Sun.
It hurts; I can feel the pain, the pinpricks of sizzling skin. It’s almost always my back as I try to get away.
I run. I’ve always run. Hiding deep underground or attempting to flee into the air or into a maze of office buildings.
Last night, I did not run. Well, I did at first. But I remembered that I can control water. I pulled water from I-don’t-know-where and blasted that dragon right in its face. It lost the ability to breath fire and, for a moment, was scared of *me*, unsure of what I would do. I had shown it that I will no longer be cowed and we came to an understanding: leave me alone and I’ll leave you and your children alone.
Still don’t know what the fire is or what I’ve managed to conquer in my life. But it felt great. Refreshing. Waking up with a smile.

I had a dream I was about to go up an elevator in a parking garage with two old friends from high school (who I don’t talk to anymore) and I left the elevator to go grab my purse real quick then on my way back I see people running and screaming for help, I see a young woman run down stairs slip and fall down the flight of stairs and die. Then I see smoke fill the garage and elevator I was about to go in, I remember seeing fire and running down to escape, I remember feeling dizzy and hearing people scream we are gonna die. Then I woke up. I have been going through a very hard time in my life right now so I feel this dream is telling me something about my waking life.

I Dreamt I was in an apartment complex, not in a particular house but in the hallway / stairway of the apartment, and there were people in my dream that I am unsure of in real life, they were trying to set me up for a fight in my dream either before or after I started the fire I Dreamt of. I cant remember if it was before or after I Dreamt these people were trying to set me up, but I started a fire in the basement / car park of the apartment I was in, but seemed to forget that I had started the fire, and ended up panicking once I became aware the entire basement had been engulfed in flames and i could see through a window that the fire was going to burn the whole apartment down if i didnt do something about it, in dream common sense I planed to put the fire out myself and prayed no one else would find out about it, but I’m sure this is where I woke up and couldn’t get back into the Dream.very worried when i realised in the Dream that I had started this massive fire, i have intense dreams from time to time and I have never dreamt avout fire before in my life, also, when I woke up and got on with my normal day, I actually accidently set fire to the packaging of a food box, and I completely forgot I had Dreamt about the fire until ten minutes ago.

I dreamed smoke was encapsulating the city, most of it was white but in the sky there were swirls of black and perfect white funnels that looked like rolled pieces of paper. I was running back to my apt when my mom told me a town near us was completely engulfed in flames and I had this understanding that the world was on fire. I didn’t even feel that afraid, just confused and sort of glad I figured out why there was so much smoke. Weird thing was I could breathe fine. And I thought it was kind of beautiful. My dad died 2 weeks ago and I haven’t had many dreams that I can remember since then except that one and one where my dead grandparents were comforting me and telling me stories about him.

I always have this dream that repeats its self- every round as i call it ends when someone win or loses. This round a man older than me and much stronger was out to kill me- his weapon was a flame thrower.
He chased me around and at the end i took his weapon and tried using it on him only to be burned in eternal flames and he also used a hair straightner. . . Am i okay-?
Lucid Nightmares says
Other rounds include the following: a black widow spider trying to jump or crawl in my mouth as i had to kill it, going to the movies with strangers only to be stabbed and losing, my younger sibling pulled a gun out on me and i lost, the reason im more concered for the fire dream is yes i dod lose but this is the first time i fought back.

I had a dream just last night of me trying so hard of kindling a fire, actually burning a blue-green plastic cellophane, like what i do when I cook. I tried many times but it keeps on dying. On my last try It was about to light up but it died because a white liquid was poured into it. Actually it became really blurry and I’m not so sure if the fire really died. Is that pertains to something not so nice? Thanks
