Some people really focus on the face, others focus on the curves, some think the hair is the most important, while others may have a foot fetish. Personality will also matter a great deal, but in this attractive women survey, we will only focus on the physical attributes of women.

Larger, rounder, eyes give women a more vulnerable look.

Eyes come in many different shapes, colors, and sizes.

Larger, rounder, eyes tend to give women a more vulnerable, submissive look.

Sharper eyes or cat-eyes, give the appearance of a more powerful, assertive woman.

Eye color also matters. Blue or green colored eyes are traditionally more popular because they are more rare compared to black and brown eyes.  

Lips – Lips can be full or thin.

Currently, there is a greater preference for fuller lips in our society. Fuller lips may appear more attractive in women because they are more sensual and indicate greater passion in bed.

Many of our female media symbols of today, including Angelina Jolie,Jessica Simpson, and Jessica Alba, sport fuller lips – either natural or acquired through plastic surgery.

Finally, the shape of a woman’s face is also a key feature in determining attractiveness. The heart-shaped face is usually considered to be most attractive. Audrey Hepburn is a good example of a very attractive woman sporting a seemingly perfect heart-shaped face.

Women with squarer faces are generally deemed less attractive because a squarer facial structure is associated with a more masculine face. Oval-shaped female faces lie somewhere in-between the two.

A woman’s breasts are definitely one of the key features of attractiveness.

Breasts are a good indication of fertility, therefore evolutionary wise, larger breasts are preferred .over smaller ones.

Even for men who may not prefer larger breasts, larger breasts will still naturally catch their attention. Women’s breasts occupy a prominent position in their bodies, and men are hard-wired by their DNA to notice a woman’s breasts.

Given advances in plastic surgery, it is now possible for women to get whatever sized breasts they desire. This practice results in the unrealistic feminine ideal of today which is larger sized breasts combined with a narrow waist and a very slim build.

Attractive Women Feature 3 – Hair

Some people find long hair to be very attractive. Longer hair requires more upkeep, but it is also very flexible when it comes to styling.

Women with long hair can create a variety of different looks just by styling their hair differently. Wearing long hair down will better frame the face and also hide imperfections in facial symmetry.

The shorter the hair, the less flexibility a woman has to create a different look for herself. However, shorter hair is easier to maintain, and some people prefer the younger, more pixie look afforded by shorter hair.

Shorter hair will not hide facial-shape imperfections though, so it should only be attempted by those who have a more symmetrical face.

Hair can also be straight or curly. Curly hair will have more body, but is difficult to style. Curly hair can often appear unkempt if not properly handled. Straight hair is easier to style and keep neat, however, it can also look flat and limp. Clever blow-drying and use of hair products will help to provide straight hair with more body.

Smaller, petite women are usually in high demand because societal norms dictate for a man to be larger or taller than his mate. Petite women, therefore, have a greater number of possible men to choose from, including shorter and taller men. However, petite women have a much harder time keeping a slim look because of their lesser height.

Taller women may have fewer men to choose from but they have a greater advantage in achieving a slim, willowy, and more refined elven look.

Our current society places great importance on slim or even thin women. Larger women are considered less attractive due of many years of negative media depictions.

Finally, how a woman dresses and wears her make-up can also have a significant effect on her attractiveness.

Some women prefer to go for the understated, less is more look. Very light make-up with cooler clothing colors (greens, blues, grays).

Other women prefer to stand out, and will go for the more striking look with heavier/darker makeup, hotter clothing colors (reds, yellows), and more flamboyant clothing styles.

Accessories can also significantly alter a woman’s look. Larger earrings, for example. will catch someone’s attention and draw his eyes to her face. Belts can be used to break up the torso, and create a more segmented, shorter appearance. High heels can provide petite women with greater height and so on.

Whether you find a man attractive or not clearly depends on a variety of factors, including personality, charm, sense of humor, financial position, physical appearance and much more.

Attractive people receive help more often, are more likely to make a sale, and automatically create a more positive impression.

Traditionally, a more manly face (facial hair, square jaw) is more attractive.

This makes a lot of sense from an evolutionary viewpoint, because a manly face indicates aggression, dominance, and strength.

A feminized face (clean shaven, less pronounced cheekbones) is associated with honesty, warmth, and cooperation – good traits for a long term partner, but not the macho hero or rogue that women dream about.

Eyes

Larger, rounder, eyes tend to give men a more youthful, submissive look.

Narrower eyes, give the appearance of a more mature, powerful, and dominant man.

In addition, rarer eye colors (blue, green) are usually deemed more attractive than more common colors (brown, black).

A sharper, tapered face is more feminine, while a square-shaped face is more masculine.

In the past, there has been a general preference for men with squarer, more manly faces. However, more recently, men with sharper features and a more tapered face have set many a woman’s heart on fire. Some great examples include Legolas in Lord of the Rings, or Edward Cullen in Twilight.

Indeed, societal preferences may be shifting from the more extreme manly look to a more balanced or evenrefined elven look.

Growth of facial hair was traditionally a sign of the man reaching sexual maturity.

However, a 2008 study at Northumbria University found that women rated the most attractive male face as those with a stubble or light beard.

Even though women still associate dominance and aggression with facial hair, and appeasement and sexual immaturity with clean-shaven men; their preference is for a male that is clearly mature, but not too masculine.

By physique I mean the man’s body type and how muscular he is.

Some people prefer a body builder’s physique where apparently a man can never be too large or too full of hard bulges.

Others prefer the lean look of a hard body, but with muscles of normal proportions.

Still, larger, softer men can provide you with a comfortable soft landing, or comfy pillow to lean on.

Today, most men wear their hair short. Short hair is more the cultural norm for men, and more socially acceptable. As a result, it is also commonly viewed as being more attractive.

In the United States, longer hair is often associated with the hippie movement – a less structured way of life that is outside cultural norms.

However, male hair fashion has not always been so limited.

Some ancient cultures, such as the ancient Greeks viewed long-hair as a symbol of power and wealth. Slaves on the other hand had to shave their heads.

American Indians also widely wore their hair long before the influences of Western culture.

Similarly, men in China wore their hair in a long braid (queue) during the 17th century.

Height commonly reflects dominance and physical superiority. One can intimidate another just by standing over them, and looking down upon them. It is more difficult to appear intimidating when you must strain to look up on your challenger.

Physical dominance is no longer a necessary part of modern society but its effects lingers.

Finally, there is the question of body hair.

Some people like the Sean Connery look, where more hair means greater maturity and masculinity.

Others prefers a smoother body, so that they can easily admire each sexy curve on their man.

In fact, societal preferences today are probably shifting towards less body hair. More and more men are considering body hair removal techniques which have previously been the purview of women.

There were over 20 couples and all of them was of a taller man with a shorter woman.

This is all fine and good but not very scientific. What does science say about this important issue?

A study by Gillis and Avis in 1980 found that for every 100 couples, only 2 are likely to have a taller woman and shorter man. This suggests that in general, men tend to choose women who are shorter than they are and/or women choose men who are taller than they are.

The Gillis and Avis study shows that couples very frequently consist of a taller man together with a shorter woman.

However, this does not necessarily mean that men like shorter girls. In fact, one can argue that the height preference largely comes from the woman’s side. Perhaps the man has no height preference, but simply dates shorter women because shorter women find them more attractive.

To get a more comprehensive view of this tall vs. short women issue, I also examined data from Yahoo Answers!. In particular, I did a search for “tall vs. short women” questions.

In my informal Attractive Women Survey, over 80% of voters expressed a preference for medium height and petite women (out of a total of over 3500 votes).

Of the men, 52% said that they like shorter women.

I collected a total of 54 responses over about 20 related questions. 29 of the responses were from men, and 25 from women. Of the men,

• 52% said that they like shorter women,
• 31% said that height is not an issue, and
• only 17% said that they like tall women.

These figures seem consistent with the results of my Attractive Women Survey which showed that only 19% of voters like tall women.

Of the women,

• 24% said that men like shorter women,
• 36% said that height is not an issue,
• 40% said that men like tall women.

What is especially interesting about the Yahoo! Answers data is that the woman’s view differs so greatly from the man’s view. Upon greater examination though, we found that of the 10 women who claimed that men prefer taller women, 7 were 5’8”-5’9”, and 1 was 5’5”. Therefore, the relatively small data-set and abnormal height distribution of respondents likely skewed the results.

The Yahoo! Answers data showed that only 17% of men like tall women.

Data from more rigorous scientific studies also support the hypothesis that men have a preference for shorter women.

“We found that shorter, slimmer females with long slender legs, a curvy figure and larger breasts are more attractive,” said lead researcher Dr William Brown of Brunel University.

Shorter women are more likely to have long-term relationships with men, and more likely to have children …

Data from more rigorous scientific studies also support the hypothesis that men have a preference for shorter women.

Why Do Men Like Shorter Women?

Taller women are especially suited for the modelling profession.

Most female models are very tall. Based on this female ideal, it seems that all of us have a preference for the tall, thin, and willowy look.

Therefore, why does the survey and scientific results show that men like shorter women? It seems that here, at least, there is an inconsistency between the media feminine ideal and our real-world feminine ideal.

Certainly tall women have the following advantages –

• Clothes fall and drape more naturally on taller women.
• Tall women can handle extra weight much better than shorter women.
• Tall women get noticed more easily because they naturally stand out in a crowd.

All of these attributes make taller women especially suited for the modelling profession. We want models to stand out from the crowd and we want them to look especially good in a wide range of dress styles.

Why Do Men Like Shorter Women?

However, a woman’s greater height becomes more of a liability during mate selection because height is often associated with strength and power. These are traditionally traits that are highly regarded in men but less so in women. A tall woman may therefore have an emasculating effect on a shorter man.

In addition, while women frequently select mates based on strength, success, and power; men are more likely to select mates based on fertility. Nettle further pointed out that –

… girls with late sexual maturity will be taller than those who mature early, because they are growing for longer.

According to Nettle, taller women become fertile at a later date when compared to their shorter counterparts. This could also be another contributing factor to a man’s preference for shorter women.

However, a woman’s height becomes more of a liability during mate selection because height is often associated with strength and power, which are traditionally less desired in women.

Don’t Men Want Tall Sons?

What’s strange is that I would like to be taller and I would like my future son(s) to be taller. So it would really make more sense to choose a tall mate with genes that will produce a son who is tall. And yet I’m attracted to short women.

Another related factor to this tall vs. short women question is the height of our resulting children. If men do indeed select based on fertility, it seems that part of that fertility question would involve the strength and power of the resulting offspring. As was pointed out in the comment above, selection of a taller woman would increase the chances of producing a taller son.

However, based on all the data it seems that the attributes of our offspring are less significant than the social effects of having a taller female spouse, as well as possible maturity issues as related to height.

Finally, it should also be mentioned that height selection and preference is a relative thing.

Most men like women that are shorter than they are and most women like men that are taller than they are. Men who are over 6 feet tall will have less problems dating tall women because they will still be the taller one in the relationship.

However, the distribution of heights for men and women follow the usual bell-curve shape. This suggests that tall women will have a smaller selection of men to choose from.

Many of us think that attraction or liking someone is purely subjective, however, social psychologists have shown that there are five key factors that can significantly increase your chances of attracting men.

For example, if you want to draw eyes to your face, then make sure to wear looser, more neutral colored clothing. Style your hair up and away from your face, and make sure that you have tasteful but captivating make-up.

To attract your man, make sure that you are well dressed, and properly groomed.

The second step to attracting your man is to find common ground. Psychologists have shown that we like people who are more similar to us. This may include shared background, culture, hobbies, food, movies, opinions or personality traits.

Car salesmen, for example, are trained to notice details about their customers such as camping gear or golf clubs in the trunk of their car. Popular media plays a big role. We have been conditioned to think that heels and legs are beautiful. When Marilyn Monroe stepped onto the subway grating in The Seven Year Itch, viewers got a peek at her flirtatious, heeled legs, and they were hooked.

Today, all the attractive women that are depicted in popular media wear high heels. Already tall super-models power walk down the runway on their stilettos. They make it seem like it is the easiest thing in the world to do, but any woman and some men know that this is not the case.

Glamorous and provocative pop stars create music videos where they not only wear high heels, but perform complex dance moves as they gyrate to the beat of their music. These results are very much in line with the socially accepted norm that women should have long hair, and men should have short hair.

A 2008 poll reported by the Daily Mail also showed similar results, with 56% of men preferring long hair on women (43% prefer long and wavy hair, and 13% prefer long and straight hair). Only 22% of the the men picked a short hairstyle (e.g. classic bob, pixie crop, bowl cut).

If you reveal all your physical assets in the beginning of the evening, there will be nothing to fall back on for the rest of the date – except your personality.

Instead of showing your entire hand right off, it may be better to keep certain things a mystery. In this way, you can make the evening more interesting for everyone with light teasing and flirting.

In the movie Memoirs of a Geisha there was a scene where a more experienced geisha was coaching a younger geisha on the art of seduction. She was explaining the right way to pour tea for their gentleman escort. While pouring tea, let your kimono sleeve slide back ever so slightly to reveal the gentle slope of your wrist. Personally, I feel it is better to err on the side of racy. That way, at the very least, you will stand out.

Get a second, third, fourth or even fifth opinion to make sure that you have not crossed the line from alluringly racy to cheap racy.

Finally make sure to do some homework on your date. Dressing makes a big difference, but being an enjoyable companion for the evening will also count for a lot.

Traditionally, males with feminine features are not portrayed well by Hollywood.

But thanks to Tolkien and Peter Jackson, the feminized featured elven men have made a comeback.

The long flowing gold locks and baby smooth face of Legolas in Lord of the Rings, have made many a heart throb. These elven men are not only attractive, but they can kill faster than a dwarf, are wise and magical, and can live pretty much forever.

These sentiments are echoed in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight and Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire that sported smooth faced, finely featured vampires with superhuman physical and mental abilities, in addition to an immortal life.

Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Dark Schneider from Bastard!, Nakago from Fushigi Yuugi, Zechs Merquise from Gundam Wing, and many many more.

These guys are not just bad – they are Snow Crash bad.

Elf Knight - Dominance, Leadership, and Strength.

Such characters do a lot to dispell the traditional/evolutionary notion that a male with feminized or elven facial features is incapable of dominance, strength, and leadership.

As more and more of these depictions of strong elven males make their way into our culture, preferences will likely change to value the more feminine face not only as a care-provider, but also as a viable dominant hero archtype.

In the 1960s and 70s, Yves Saint-Laurent popularized the androgenous look in women’s fashion.

Today, it has become socially acceptable for women to wear “men’s clothing” (pants, suits, shirts). In fact, it is more socially acceptable for women to look like men (“tomboy”) than vice versa (“girly”).

Conditions, however, may slowly be changing.

A recent study at Northumbria University found that women rated the most attractive male face as those with a stubble or light beard. Even though women still associate dominance and aggression with facial hair, and appeasement and sexual immaturity with clean-shaven men; their preference is for a male that is clearly mature, but not too masculine.

It will be interesting to carry out the same studies among women who either love the Lord of the Rings movies or Japanese anime. Perhaps the results there will be skewed more towards clean-shaven elven men.

Yes guys, this is an option.

Facial feminization surgery (FFS) is an established surgical procedure for altering a human face so as to bring it closer to the feminine ideal.

Currently it is utilized primarily by women and transgender people, but who knows; when sentiment shifts greatly towards the more feminized elven male face, it may become popular with the general male population.

So start saving up guys, and start doing some research. Get in on this future trend to be a girl magnet!
