- Fire is a symbol of rejuvenation. It can cleanse and purify.
- Fire sustain us, but it can also destroy. We need warmth to survive, but uncontrolled fire can cause untold pain and destruction.
- Fire can provide illumination and show us the way when we are in the dark.
- Fire is also a symbol of war, might, aggression, and male power.
- Fire is linked to transformation and change. For example, the Phoenix is a bird of fire that after death, is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor.
Which of these meanings fire has in our dream will depend a lot on the surrounding context. In particular,
- Kindling a fire to serve our purposes is very different from a fire that is blazing out of control.
- A fire that warms and comforts us is different from a fire which causes fear and excruciating pain.
- The objects and people associated with the fire are also important.
This is why in dream interpretation, it is important to remember the details of our dream, for example through the use of a dream journal.
1. Dream of Fire and Control
If we dream that we are in control of the fire and are using it to serve our own needs, then fire has a positive meaning. It also signals that we want change to occur.
- Kindling a fire for others indicates that we are helping or guiding those around us. Sharing a campfire can also express a need or interest in socializing and companionship.
- Kindling a fire in our home, particularly during cold or inclement weather, suggests some imminent good fortune, we may be trying to conceive, or expecting a visit from close friends or family.
- Kindling a fire while on a journey shows that we are being creative, innovative, or leading a new venture.
- A controlled fire burning in the hearth signals comfort, warmth, and light. We may be contented with our current state of affairs. Searching for a hearth fire in our dream, may signal that we are seeking comfort and illumination in our life.
If the kindled fire is extinguished by rain in our dream, it could suggest a loss of money, job, comfort, or security.
On the other hand, if we are setting an uncontrolled fire with the purpose of destroying people, objects, and property (i.e. arson), then we are likely harboring some jealousy, bitterness, or hatred in our life toward a co-worker, friend, or relative.
- Dreaming we are setting fire to ourselves, indicates that we may be experiencing extreme stress or emotional turmoil in our life, and feel like we are burning up. It may also indicate that we want to remove some aspect of our life or personality.
- Dreaming we are a firefighter or are trying to put out a fire suggests that there are many complicated and high stress problems that are demanding our attention. There are perhaps many challenges that we may have to face and we will need to work hard to overcome them. Trying to stop a fire can also express a desire to prevent change in our life.
- Dreaming we are a fire eater shows that we have strong emotions, but they are currently being kept under control. However, if we become consumed by the fire, then our emotions may be starting to overwhelm us.
- Dreaming we are worshiping fire expresses a love for war or conflict. We may feel strongly that a resolution can only be achieved through the use of force or physical might. It may also indicate a wish for finding a more masculine partner, or the need to cultivate more masculine qualities in ourselves.
2. Dream of Fire and How We Feel
How we feel during our fire dream is also very important.
Feeling pain from being burned by our dream fire, may indicate that our current life situation is threatening and painful. There could be an unresolved issue that is causing us subconscious pain. We may be consumed by ambition, anger, frustration, and other strong emotions. We may be going through an emotionally painful break-up, or having difficult problems at work.
If we are struck by pain or discomfort from the heat of a blaze or feel its bite on our face, we may be worried of being the subject of slander, jealousy, spite, or other types of verbal and emotional abuse.
Feeling good or excited from seeing our heart on fire suggests strong positive emotions or love for someone in our life. We may currently be in an exciting relationship, and have intense desire toward our current partner.
Feeling tired or nothing at all from being burned by fire suggests that we are feeling burned-out or unmotivated.
Feeling fear and great uncertainty from a large out of control fire or firestorm signals a worry for insubordination, civic disorder, or chaos around us. There may be signs of unhappiness and insubordination at work or we may worry about social unrest in our current area. More black smoke indicates greater danger.
Feeling cool and comfortable in a fire represents a pure heart. We are confident of our current course in life, and are certain of our faith and decisions. There are no unresolved issues or deceits that are troubling us.
Feeling protected and safe in a fire may mean that we have a trusted partner or a strong support group of friends, family, or co-workers that will help keep us safe from whatever adversity that may arise in our life.
3. Dream of Fire and Objects
The objects in our fire dream are also very important for interpreting its meaning.
1. House.
A common object that appears in many fire dreams is a house. Our house or home often represents us or our family. Dreaming that our house is on fire may indicate large changes that are coming and uncertainty over those changes. It may also reflect tumultuous personal emotions, loss of mental peace, or being overwhelmed by strong feelings.
A raging uncontrolled fire in our town signals broader issues affecting our community. There could be economic issues that cause job losses or political unrest.
Finally, seeing the ruins of our house or town after a fire indicates loss and sadness. We may be worried of losing someone or something important to us (e.g. family, friends, job, money), or have recently experienced such a loss in our life.
2. Fire extinguisher.
Trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher represents a desperate need to suppress emotions and desires, or avoid changes that are happening in our life.
3. Other people.
If we see another person being burned, it shows that we have strong feelings or emotions toward that person. Whether those feelings are positive or negative will depend a lot on what we are feeling in our dream, and whether the person is comfortable or in pain from the fire.
Sharing the light of someone else’s fire may indicate a desire to share in the knowledge and companionship of others. We may be feeling lonely or stagnant, and be yearning for experiences with new people.
The Meaning of Fire Dreams
To interpret the meaning of our fire dreams, we want to pay attention to –
- Whether we are in control of the fire. In particular, did we start the fire and is the fire currently being used for our comfort, safety, and illumination.
- What we feel with regard to our dream fire. Were we afraid of it or comforted by its warmth? Were we comfortable and renewed by the fire, or did we feel pain and fear?
- Other objects and people in our dream.

I never dream fire however. I had a dream of a large crash. In my dream i see mangled metal and one large propeler blade. Then a fire blazing large and out of control. The flames are large with a deep red yellow orange flame and the tip of the flame is a dark blue. The flames are out of cobtrol and i can hear the burning then slowly i feel hot and its hard to breath. I never feel pain i only feel heat and an overwhelming suffocation. The shy is dark. Smoke thick as a wall. Black at the base and gray on the outter edges of the smoke. I wake up scared, hot and short of breath drenched in sweat.

I dreamt a distant cousin had gone mad and was trying to set me on fire with a cigarette lighter and it wouldn’t burn. It was a blue flame and I felt no pain, just fear. My husband and other relatives tried to stop him and that’s when he tried to light himself on fire and for a moment his entire face and head were on fire then the fire died and he got in his car and drove off laughing loudly like a villain does in the cartoon shows. This is a cousin I have not seen or spoken to in years. What in the world does this dream even mean??

In my dream, the kitchen was on fire. It was small enough to where I was able to get all the kids out of the house safely. My oldest daughter was the one who called 911. Within the same dream, or perhaps another dream on the same night, the kitchen was on fire again, but this time with an out of control raging fire. I was frantic, trying to remember where the kids bedrooms were to get them out of the house. I yelled for someone to call 911, but no one was there. I then remembered the cat was still inside.
Dream shift to firefighters searching for the source of the fire, commenting on how two in one week is really unheard of in the same home. They discovered that the dishwasher was what started the fire.
Ironically, I had told my husband earlier in the week that something smelled like a mechanical burn and I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from…..

I had a dream last night that started off as a nice day at a pool. With people and couples I didn’t know. On top of a hotel sort of pool on a roof. Everything was fine and then I saw an earthquake coming towards us, like a wave of homes being destroyed. I told the person next to me to hang on. It went by us but didn’t do any harm. Everything around us was pretty much ruined. It went on to be fine and everyone just confused. Then a fire started raging out of control from the downwd electrical wires everyone started running and getting burned and screaming. What in the world!!

Hi I’m Juliana, I actually have a different questions. I would like to ask, what it means to wake up with unexplained body marks. I have a mark on my left back just under my arm, it has 5 points like a star and very faded u have never had a tattoo and I don’t know what it means. My partner is the one who recognized it and took a picture of it. May someone please enlighten me what could it be.

Last night I dreamt that I was walking around my house and out of each electrical socket, flames were coming out. I ran around the house to see if it was every one and it was every single one. I yelled for people to call for the fire department, but nobody would. I didn’t know what to do. I grabbed all the things I had time to grab before escaping…which included my dog. Really weird dream and scary.

The fire in my dream was a beacon toward desired community. The scene is mid-evil theatrical. I was an adult entertainer but the way we entertained was by putting on these stiff casts from the waste down. They were sculpted ballerina legs that we (me and other girls) stepped into and strutted across a cat walk. They didn’t bend and the toes were in point so it took skill. After a show someone told me they were going to help me escape. She said to put this white bunny outside and when the bunny stoked a fire I would know there was someone waiting for me. I was told the bunny couldn’t get wet or it wouldn’t work. I was concerned because there were fountains flowing every where outside. I released the bunny out the back door and had to go to the front door to leave so no one would suspect what I was planning. As I walked I worried that the bunny would be hindered but when I looked outside past the yard and to the tree line of a forest I saw a glow and said all breathy and exuberant “The fire has been stoked” I ran there and found a table just inside the woods. There were tuns of friendly people and I found who was waiting for me, a man I didn’t know. I sat with him and we ate and then it was time to go to bed. Everyone dispersed and I saw Rhoda (Desirae’s mom) cleaning up after the crew like the mother of the tribe and I started to help her. She wore a style that reminded me of my hodgepodge artistic creations I would have worn in my early 20s. Funny stitched together boho garments. I saw her pick up objects and clean underneath and admired her work ethic to do more than clean around things. I began wiping another counter and on it I found a cracked necklace. I recognized it as the necklace I wore on my wedding day. The amber stone was apart from the deteriorated metal setting. The metal was all ash and patina and crumbled more when I touched it. I thought back on the day and remembered the words “The fire has been stoked” The words rang in my mind but it was as if goblins were saying it, like the seen in Labyrinth when the goblins were standing by just waiting for the girl to say the words that would allow them to wreak havoc on her life.

Oops, I copied this where I had written about it to a friend, don’t expect you to know Rhoda lol!

I had a dream about a month ago that a non-specific house across the street and to the right was on fire. I saw it, but when i tried to get my husband to come and see, it was already being rebuilt.
Last night I woke up to the sounds of sirens on my street. There was a house on fire… Across the street and 4 houses to the right. This was not a dream.
How could this have happened? Is it just some crazy coincidence?

I had a fire dream and oh was it scary, so in my dream I was at school and then I went home and I remember that I went to my room, and this girl came and I just remember she really didn’t like me and I don’t know why, but I remember that she started to light fire on the exits of my room and the corners, so I’d be trapped in the fire and then before she left she said something I dont remember what it was and then left me in my room trapped, and then I was out of hope until I realized that I could take out the fire with water and (I have) and in the dream I had a sink in my room so I started to collect water and put the fire out since it hadn’t grown yet. What does it mean?

My dreams of fire make me feel powerful and like a hero. Last night I dreamt that I put out a fire and it was just a few flames on the ground. I can’t remember what I had used but all I remember is that I felt proud of myself and in the dream I kept repeating “Wow! This is the first time I put out a fire myself..woah!” I’m not exactly sure if I should have been happy about that

My dream last night started while I was in my car. There was a woman two cars ahead who stopped and was holding up traffic. There was a person, unsure if man or woman, in the car directly behind her who was yelling at her to go. She got out of the car and starting yelling at the person. I felt as though I was in a hurry and knew that I wasn’t going to be able to travel that way, so I got out of my car and went towards a building. It was a children’s hospital. When I tried walking through the building a security guard stopped me and told me I couldn’t go that way either. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t just walk down the hallway and became very frustrated. I closed my eyes and when I opened them again I was in an apartment. It felt like it was my apartment although I’ve never actually seen this place before. The apartment was a little run down, older, and we were on the second story. I was sitting in the corner of the living room watching my significant other sitting with our young son watching while they were watching t.v. A large spider, about the size of a small dog (black with some coloring on the face, very hairy like a tarantula, and had three main body parts ) walked in front of them and slowly headed towards me. I looked at them and didn’t understand why they weren’t reacting to this spider. I didn’t move, I just sat there and watched it come closer to me. I knew I had to kill it because I didn’t want it to harm our children, but when I tried to smoosh it with my hand it’s body was so hard that it didn’t do anything. In slow motion I watched this spider open it’s mouth and expose it’s very large fangs. Again in slow motion it bit down onto my hand. I could feel the fangs penetrate deep into my hand. Then it started repeatedly biting down on both hands. I grabbed the butt end of the spider and twisted it like I was wringing out a towel. That was the only way I could finally kill the spider. Both hands immediately swelled up. I looked up at my fiancé and said that I should go to the hospital and that I could feel myself getting dizzy. He still didn’t seem concerned. When I looked down at my hands again the swelling had gone down, but there was lots of little welts where the fangs had gone into my skin on the top of my hands. There was a porch and I went out onto the porch and lit a cigarette. In the middle of the porch was a hole. It looked like there was garbage in the hole. I flicked my cigarette and it landed in the hole by accident. Flames began coming out. There was a BBQ next to me and sitting on the BBQ was a plastic bottle of olive oil. I tried putting the olive oil on it to smoother the flames, but it didn’t work. I jumped off the porch to the ground and ran towards a hose. By the time I got the hose the flames were taking over the entire building. I believe that everyone left the building because I didn’t get the sense that anyone was hurt or trapped inside. I was able to put the fire out with water from the hose. The building was left smoldering. I remember thinking that we lost all of our belongings, but it didn’t matter. It was only stuff. It felt like an end, but I didn’t feel devastated. I walked under the porch where the fire started and saw a small yellow bird sitting in an open cage. The bird was dirty and it’s right leg and burnt off. The bird flew towards me and I held it in my hand. I can’t remember exactly what happened after that, but when I woke up I got the feeling that I put the bird in my mouth. I’m not sure if I ate it or just put it in my mouth. Or maybe I just imagined putting it in my mouth and that part didn’t actually take place in my dream. It felt like there was so much symbolism and when I woke up I felt like it was important for me to remember this dream. Something about it was important for me to understand. If anyone can provide some insight on what they think it symbolized please let me know. Thank you:)

My dream only dream I have had of this one was that my mum’s neighbours house was on fire next door to her the neighbours who own the house now live across the street and have rented there other house out but in my dream they lived there still and my mum and her husband came out and my mum ran through all the fire from a side gate my mum’s husband could not keep her away no matter how hard he tried I was younger in my pre teens.
I was screaming no mum please no mum then she almost disappeared fully into the flames no smoke was visible I saw just the back part of her dressing gown I then awoke so fast scared out of my wit’s end that I had lost my mum.
Our relationship isn’t that great either.
My reoccurring dream aswell I would like help with is from being really young I have had this dream where the IRA bomb us and that the sun is burning everyone all my family turn into some weird scary alien type things so I go running to get help from neighbours on my street but the bombs are falling and the sun is chasing me the heat is unbearable and all my friends neighbours everyone has turned me away then I leave and at the end all my neighbours seem to be dead but I am still alive.
My other major one from child hood is that I was having a lovely meal with my family even my grandfather was there too I went out to play and dig the garden to put flowers in when I found a dead body my family came out the adults and tried to cover it all up again in the dream I have always had a sense that I was me who killed and burried the body I was never told it was me though.
Then in the next part it was some other member of my family who had done it? but ever since this dream reoccurring dream all through childhood I have always thought I had actually done this I was about 4 or 5 in this dream?
